I don't know about anyone else but for the first time this week work colleagues and friends of friends are coming down with suspected swine flu, there's 9 confirmed cases in the small town I work in and it's become a reality.

Exactly. It certainly looks like we're all likely to catch it: & sooner - rather than later. Gawd help us if the bleatings of 'Man Flu' sufferers are anything to go by. ???

My wife had it last week - both my kids and i have been ok so far. Really is luck of the draw (though i'm unsure of the incubation period)

my missus has it (suspected anyway) and as she is on the high risk list she had a home visit and was given tammi-flu yesterday...they wouldn't let her go to the surgery even if she could have got there!

I haven't even got a sniff of a cold.

Apparently the tablets just shorten the life of the virus which gives it less time to do damage to other pre-existing conditions.

Funny you should mention not even having a sniff of a cold, Severnside Gull, I've not had a cold for months now... which is unusual. Perhaps all the precautions I've been taking to not catch Swine Flu are having a positive effect.

Back in April a lot of people said this is just media hype and it will go away like the bird flu did. Roll on 3 months, I think we have quite a serious situation on our hands here.

Not really, it's not dangerous and more people are dying of normal flu. It's a highly contagious but pretty mild virus.

That's only partly correct. The last flu pandemic (2000/2001) killed 21,000 - a normal year will kill about 6,500. Swine flu is expected to kill anywhere between 15,000 and 65,000 - no-one can be sure.

It's certainly not about to wipe out half the population but it is a significant virus. And the main difference is that swine flu is more likely to account for young adults as opposed to the elderly and the very young.
