Cheque clearing

Paid a cheque into my account yesterday morning. My online bank tells me my balance is as if the money had gone in but my available money is as if it ain't.

I know there is a period of 'clearing'. Do ya reckon it will clear today. It's just I fancy a few jars later but can't afford it if it doesn't go in today.

Help me get drunk innit.

Depending on which bank you are with will take either 3 or 5 days to clear. The "true" banks like HSBC, Lloyds and Barclays do it in 3, but the old Building Socitys take 5 for some reason.

btw thats working days. So if you paid it in yesterday will not be clear to either Monday or Wednesday.

it won't be cleared until early next week, so the simple answer, as unacceptable as it may be, is no!

With Barclays you can normally draw on the cheques as soon as they are paid in.

If the cheque you paid in was drawn on an account with the same bank then you might be able to ask them to draw against it.

Just try and take the money out and see what the cash point says. Otherwise go and cash a cheque in some dodgy shop, that is not going to clear until after the cheque you have paid in has cleared...
