No, they get knocked for advertising for fans in Sussex.

You obviously didn't see the "Come and watch Premiership football" posters in Brighton...

Its not great but thats f***ing life. All smaller clubs suffer this. That the marketing is getting more aggressive cant be legislated against, or work on gentlemans agreements.

Its a sorry state of affairs but thats the football we have nowadays.

Had a little chuckle on way to work this morning. There's a house on the Reigate road near Sidlow Bridge that flies a Union Jack and a Chartlon flag. Both were at half mast this morning :lolol::lolol:

League 1 is beginning to look pretty competitive for 2009/10.

We're looking at, potentially:

Charlton
Southampton
Forest / Norwich
Leeds
MK Dons

On the face of it that only leaves 1, maybe 2, play-off spots.

Mate however i feel about Charlton, i am the first to say that they marketed their club very well indeed. Offering long term S/T deals for next to nothing, laying on the free travel with dirt cheap ticket prices kept The Valley full for a number of years and for that you have to give them credit. But now this has happened to them you will see only their genuine hardcore fans going from now on, that is the problem you get when all the freebies stop.

Good marketing? that strategy is defined by Porter as "cost leadership" which is not a healthy position for someone to adopt when trying to build any sort of brand equity.

A PROPER Marketer would have made them change their name to something like "East London Mega Allstars FC" brought in a few clothes horse players to model their fantastic versace kit and traded on an uber cool image to drive merchandising and premium price tickets...

A sunshine bus from littlehampton and cheap tickets...pah..

It was short term marketing i grant you, but for a time it worked for them BH. But you are correct this policy was always going to bite them on the arse, and it certainly has
