What a joy, not only the masterful and always entertaining Richie Benaud (a beautiful day today, and a balmy evening this evening, marvellous effort, that), but now Tony Greig as well.

Only Day 2, and already Greig's shouted "Yeeees, and that's out!", only for the umpire to give a resounding "not out", on at least 8 occasions. A bit like John Motson proclaiming a goal several seconds before the ball's crossed the line.

Anyone who's ever listened to the Third Man comedy series can't fail to find the sound of Tony Greig's voice hilarious.

Cricket doesn't get much better than this (apart from more wickets for England, and maybe the occasional commentary on pigeons from Henry Blofeld).

Best comment on TMS yesterday morning; I forget which commentator it was but, to Mike Gatting:

"well it must have been an enthralling morning's cricket because there's been a pork pie in the fridge for an hour and it's still there".

Channel 4 is the shiznit compared to those cowboys at Sky.

Athers and Benaud are my favourite. If they could get Bumble then it'd nbe PERFICK!

You ought to try listening to it on Radio 4 long wave

Sometimes do if I'm in the car.

Might be full of old farts, but there's something quintessentially English summer about listening to Henry Blofeld waffling on about different species of birds and types of chocolate cake.

I almost forgot about the legendary Geoffrey Boycott on C4 as well, I saw him this morning defiantly telling everyone how he would have batted on that pitch. Comedy all the way, him and Greig will surely come to blows over who gets to stick their car keys in the pitch.

Cool, Ponting's out.

Tony Greig "Mmmm, the lights are orn here at the MCG and, my, those little Sri Lunkuns are looking prutty demn fine in their dork blue uniforms"

Bill Lawry "and what about the Australians Tony, they're looking pretty good too"

TG "wull yeah, the Australians are lookung prutty smort too in their canary yellow"

BL "CANARY YELLOW?? That is Australian Gold my friend and don't you f**king forget it. (mutters) Canary yellow indeed"

:lolol:

I used to have an Australian boss and it's amazing how much you can wind them up by calling it canary yellow.

Greig seems to have forgotten the laws of the game.

Batsmen plays no shot at a ball that cuts back in and strikes batsman high on leg. Hawkeye confirms it is missing but Greig adds "it struck him outside off stump anyway". So !!! If it HAD been hitting the stumps, he would have been out regardless as he was playing NO shot, regardless where it struck him. Prat !!

Have to agree with that.

There were some classic piss takes out of Mike Gatting earlier in the day about the size of his breakfast.

Jonathon Agnew thought that because he had so many eggs on his plate he was about to distibute them round, WRONG!!

Do you mean the 12th Man, Edna? If so, where do you hear it - I've got some CDs of his and they're hilarious.

If not, what's the Third Man and where's it on?
