I suspect "I want to vote for the other guys, but thry never gets enough votes so it's a waste of my time, I'll vote for one of the big parties instead" is a self-fulfilling prophecy. I think there are probably enough people in this position that if they all voted for the person they wanted to, they would not be 'the little guys' for very long.

A football analogy,of a sort,if you like : you follow the same old team and they win nothing, year in,year out.Do you change to another team ?

I don't think the analogy works particularly well, at least not for most supporters.

Supporting a political party is part of means to the end of creating a well-governed country.
Supporting a football club is more like an end in itself.

Until Proportional Representation comes in there is really no point in voting.

Each party only concentrates on getting re-elected, rather than the best thing for the country.

PR forces parties to work together, and ensures that every vote counts even if
it is a protest vote.

Sadly neither Labour or Conservative will ever bring PR in, so we are stuck will the current outdated and broken system.

Count your blessings. We here in the States have a variety of parties --well, actually two -- to choose from, both conservative.

When I was young I thought that most of them were cnuts.
Now I think they are ALL cnuts.
