I was in Naples recently. The pure hatred of Juventus was everywhere even though they were celebrating winning Série A themselves - graffiti, posters, permanent banners and signs, chants…………..

I did listen at first. Having experienced it, I decided not to listen but 'zoned out'. I still had the sound on for the crowd atmosphere.
To be fair, it was a beautiful goal. He couldn't have struck it better.

That's just down to the different structure of organized fans chanting in the UK vs continental Europe (e.g. Italy.) You have possibly a better, more stable middle level given by the totality of normal fans chanting organically, but won't reach the potential granted by better organization and ultras groups (which of course bring also some problematics.) Each side has pros and cons, it's just natural that an organized "curva" will normally keep up chanting for 90 minutes better than how spontaneous fans can. But if you take away the ultras' guidance, Italian fans would be a mess compared to English ones.Pathetic from the City fans, one chant of Blue Moon in the first half and that was about it. Wait until we show Europe what we're made of 'Allbiiiooooonnn, Allbiiiooooonnn'
Even if they didn't have the owners they have and had Americans instead, it's simply the nature of being at the top that brings you haters. They might need some time before realising it because their ascent has been quite quick and they weren't always as successful, but they can't expect people to thank them for winning over them. Either you win a lot or you're liked by other fans, you can't have both. You can also lose and be universally disliked, but that's another matter

Man City the club, the media fans and the rank and file have always wanted to be accepted and liked.
They are early adopters of sportswashing and that win over the hearts and minds mentality still exists, the nicer side of sportswashing
They certainly didn't get the vitriol thrown at Newcastle - who just don't care.
So may well think us just week in week out ignoring them is a sign of it working, making them all the more surprised when true feelings are voiced.
I believe their need is twofold:-
'you need to love us because we were once shite like you, and one day you too could have all of this'.
&
'you need to love us because we're not Utd, who you really hate'.
What the club fed media cheerleaders, and certainly last night's commentary team, don't understand is the simple fact that 'we' don't want to be them, we couldn't think of anything worse.
Plus, where football is concerned 'we' have an infinite amount of room for hate.

The game (and sadly sound) were absolutely perfect.

It is a frustration for me. Lazio were the first Italian team I followed, mainly because they were very average and I bought a shirt of there's when younger. This was over 30 years ago when Italian football was being shown over here for the first time. It's an awkward relationship because they are my only Italian team. I've tried to 'change' them for another but it's hard to do that in football. They will always be my team. I remember telling someone I knew who followed Italian football and they were forthright in telling me how disappointed they were that I would support such a team. It's the thing that stops me from pressing the 'buy' button for their shirt each season. I was hoping they might have a supporters club 'bel club di tifosi laziali' or something like that.
