French have been honing this heavy-handedness towards the English since the Harrying of the North.

Let’s hope they speak with this fella about what happened;

‘But Mathieu Valet, from senior police officers' union the SICP, told the BBC's Newshour the main issue was not ticketless fans or fake tickets, but "three or four hundred French and undocumented delinquents who were there on the concourse of the Stade de France".’

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-61633840

They can then catch up with the French Interior Minister about the cover up.

Is that the French’s latest story? It changes by the hour, they’ve no credibility and reading L’equipe and such tonight they really have lost all credibility. Monday night club on 5 live worth a listen too. French have made a right mess of things, are humiliated but unable to apologise because they’d be admitting fault (page 1 of every Authority’s manual when things go wrong - never admit fault!)

Right load of oeuf on their faces basically. Wonder what tomorrow’s easy to rumble lie will be?!!

That whole article and the interview seem to quite reasonably explain the situation. One train line shut, so everyone had to come from one station, narrow bottlenecks funnelling fans, extra checking of tickets because of the prior knowledge that there may be ticketless fans / counterfeit tickets (whether there were many or not, there seems to have been an expectation that there were going to be) only one gate open letting people in - and even then only occasionally. Indeed, it seems quite astounding that there wasn't actually any violence from Liverpool fans desperate to get in, and no-one seems to be suggesting that there was. What is equally interesting, and doesn't seem to have been mentioned, is that these problems appear to have been building over the hours before the game, yet the game was only delayed by just over half-an-hour - which strikes me that once they realised their tactics / actions weren't working, and ran things more normally - fans got in at the speed they should have done?

Real Madrid fans' horror at dismal policing, stolen tickets and violent attacks by local thugs at Champions League final - as one commentator insists 'tragedy' was only avoided because English fans behaved well

Sounds like an absolute shambles. I heard one excuse was that they did not have much time to prepare as it was moved at short notice from St Petersburg. Is it the first time they've hosted a major sporting event?

Don’t forget, it’s never their fault either! (Where are all the anti scouse idiots several days later eh, when the truth is coming out?!)

You really are a mouthy pillock, perhaps read the quote below, and the article it came from.

The truth will out, but all because the biased UK media are scared to criticise Merseyside football fans these days, does not mean that they alone tell the real story. Time will tell.

“More than two-thirds of the tickets presented by some 62,000 Liverpool supporters had been fakes, the minister added.”

There were many quotes of tickets having to be scanned 5 times before the machine accepted them as valid. What are the chances that this would be recorded as 4 fakes and 1 genuine?

There certainly weren’t 40,000 supporters outside waiting to get in. A few hundred at most when shown on TV.

Data is still awaited from the French authorities to substantiate their claims regarding the number of non-genuine tickets presented. To provide that number they must have some form of turnstile or other electronic data but as yet, in spite of being asked, they haven't presented it. It must exist, otherwise they couldn't / wouldn't have made that statement in the press conference?

Meanwhile, a journalist from The Athletic speaking on 5 Live last said that whilst of course their are counterfeit tickets for all major football matches, the idea of 40'000 counterfeit tickets for one match (which is what the French are claiming) would be "totally unprecedented" in the history of all football, ever. So it will be interesting to see the evidence from the French authorities when they produce it. Or of course, it could be bullshit that they hoped nobody would ever ask them to verify.

reading between lines, if genuine tickets weren't working, that would look a lot like fake tickets. they wouldnt be able to confirm numbers of fakes vs unaccepted valid tickets.

It's looking more and more like a monumental cock up by the French, and the very suggestion that some 40,000 fans travelled with (or purchased over there) counterfeit tickets from dubious sources, is utterly absurd.
As has been said, it's far more likely that their systems were recording failed attempts at scanning as 'fakes' - or, it's simply a load of bollocks, to avoid culpability.
Of course, at any large event such as this, there will always be a small proportion of people trying to blag their way in, and that applies to both sets of fans, as well as the locals, who have also been implicated.
I hope the independent investigation is thorough and apportions blame where it is actually due.

You have had some very reasonable replies to your post, with explanations for the fake ticket claim made by the French. Also, still no evidence to back up those French claims. So what’s your response ?

As I said, time will tell.
