Prompted by the "NSFW Friday Filth" thread, and no doubt this has been debated before, but I guess a lot of younger kids read and post on NSC.

You might say that their parents could put net nannies on their PCs but I think its the responsibilty of all of us (and not just the mods) to think about that when we post.

The same goes for strong swear words, particularly in thread titles.

I'm also a member of EnglandFans and on there there is an automatic deleter of swear words (its not that sophisticated so Scunthorpe isnt even allowed!). I'm not advocating we go that far, but I do think posters should think before posting

I'm far from a prude BTW (just trying to look out for the little ones).

The thing that makes NSC so good is the fact that you can have an opinion without being censored. Yes children use the board but they also go into pubs so do we stop swearing in them as well?

...err, this is pretty tame compared to many sites...look at the comments posted on You Tube, particularly from our American cousins, if you want to see offensive material...I don't suppose for a minute that children are stopped from accessing that stuff by net-ninny or whoever!

I think it's great that we are allowed to use any word on here. Most messageboards are far too strict.

It seems that if you want to critisese Adams on NSC then you will get a message saying that your post is not long enough. I tried to post that if Adams got the Reading job then they would be facing a relegation struggle, but you've guessed it..your post is too short!

Some things are best left alone and to be honest if every word was censored and the most widely used letter in here was * i wouldnt bother coming in,but i understand the original posters view as my lad of tender years did ask me why there were so many f***ing wankers on here after spending 10 mins in here last week. :lolol:

I find the breadth of topics covered, quite often extremely intelligently, on North Stand Chat quite healthy. Not sure that pictures of women (or indeed, men) with few clothes on ever did anyone any harm. Swearing is a bit different, but if the go to the games they will hear far worse, complete with added emphasis. There is precious little racism, sexism or homophobia on here, despite some obvious support for some of the lunatic right wing fringe (yes, I am talking about the BNP). Most of the unreasoned vitriol is saved for other football teams and players and, whilst I find some of it over the top, that is one of the things that makes following football fantastic.

As far as I'm concerned, this is an adult site and if it's going to have to be dumbed down to the Sesame Street level, many people will leave.

That's not to say anything goes, far from it, just adhere to some sort of decent standard and by and large the mods get it about right IMHO although I'm sure there is the odd exception. I know I've used the occasional swear word on here, but certainly don't pepper my posts with them, and I don't see much wrong with that.
