Not being a defeatist but doesnt this win hide and give a false impression of what has been a disappointing season in terms of county championship matches

That's a relief... its very important to get points early in the season as the last 2/3 matches can be severely affected by bad weather. This time we got lucky. This must not be repeated next season.

Lancashire starting to sweat.................................................

Somerset - Current partnership 74 runs, 27.3 overs, RR: 2.69

and lo - they take the crucial wicket...

Somerset 380 & 205/8 (79.0 ov)

Lancashire 480

Somerset lead by 105 runs with 2 wickets remaining

Should Lancashire beat Somerset (as seems likely) then Warwickshire HAVE to beat Hampshire

Both teams winning gives Warwickshire 248 and lancashire 246 points
If
Warwickshire draw gives them 235 pts
lancashire draw gives them 233 pts

not really - you only get 3 points for a draw (+ any bonus points) so there is no marked difference between drawing and losing-

We lost games by big margins (8 wickets and innings & 43 runs v Warwick, 9 wickets v Somerset, 208 runs v Durham, innings & 55 runs v Lancashire

Second half of the season couold have been better had a few crucial games gone our way but we lost 2 out of our first 9 championship games, and then proceeded to lost 4 out of the next 8

beardy gull I could kiss you. I was just thinking that we weren't going to get a wicket all day and then you pronounce lancashire as winners. Legend.
Getting interesting now as both Lancs and Warks are contriving to let winning positions turn to potential draws. Somerset, for example, were 130/7 in their second innings and are now 280/8, which is 180 runs ahead and 2 wickets left. Will Lancs have time to knock off the runs once they do get them out?

And Warks aren't faring any better - having just about enforced the follow on, Hants are now 50 in front and Warks still need the last 6 wickets and to knock the runs off if they are going to get the win that would guarantee them the title.

So in terms of the title, I'd say Lancs are favourites - but they NEED to get Somerset out fairly quickly.

Amazing that Somerset's number 10 batsman is now second highest scorer in that innings, unbeaten on 57. You would think Lancs will get that last wicket in the next 20 mins, but a chase of over 200 is no gimme...
