Similarly, does anyone know anything about this 'My Brewery Tap' opening on North Road?

Yes, I understand it opened a couple of Saturdays ago and was promptly closed on the following Monday after the manager was sacked. One issue was wrong pump clips on the pumps. They should have got Azure to do the pies so you could have pie AND lager roulette-one big lucky dip.

Went there on Friday as well, had one drink and left.

The fact that a pint of the Pilsner was over over £7 was enough to mean it was not the place for a few beers.

Ended up at the Pub Du Vin beer festival.

You probably chose a fancy imported craft beer. The Cask in Pimlico often has small runs of beers from around the world and these are typically £3.95 for a half.

You do need a big wallet to get trolleyed in The Cask and the Bewdog pubs but then quality comes at a price.

P.S. a friend of mine went to the Cask on Friday and was underwhelmed.

The Tubthumper Troupe will be darkening its doors this weekend-I'll update. I will be partaking in some Brewdog action this week though as I'll be in The Smoke.

I went there for a couple of beers on Friday, what really struck me was how different the clientèle are to when it used to be The Hop Poles, there was even a guy in a smoking jacket! Some top quality beers though and I can't comment on the prices as my round didn't coincide with it.

Man in a smoking jacket, this is the first positive comment I have heard.

I had a look in there soon after it opened, I like my beer but the prices are ridiculous unless you buy from the hand pump/localish brewer range.Even a bottle of Belgian ranges from £5-£8, which is excessive. Also too many beers with a lack of proper information.

However, was in the Park Crescent the other week and ordered a bottle of Badger's Golden Glory and was charged £4.30 for a bottle which was on offer at Morrison's for £1.37..... nice mark up not !

When did the Spotted Dog stop being the gay pub in Brighton ? It had that reputation in the early 70's - lads I know would have been scared (literally) to go in there. Also where was the Curtain club ?

The Curtain Club was appropriately underneath the Queens Hotel.
I was open minded enough to go there one evening because the friends I was with wanted to stay out and drink and dance after 1am.
I got refused a second drink because I didn't want to have one bought for me by the manager.
Another reason to harbour just a little disdain for the complaints for 'acceptance' and that the gays are 'repressed'.
My right of choice was not well respected there, was it?

Probably not too disimilar an experience to what females have to go through with leery beery blokes though is it?

And it still rankles, 30-40 years later?

Oh dear....

That was not my only reflection, through the years sunshine. Not that I need the likes of you to be apologists.
Nope, I expect any problem I had with the gay society to be mocked....by the likes of you.

This was the manager of a gay club, so he represented his establishment rather poorly, with his responsibility to do so. I made that point at the time, and left.
