I saw the film last night and thought it was very good. My wife who hates James Bond films also enjoyed it.

The film lacked a decent car chase, although the chase across the building site at the beginning was very good.

Lots of very good witty one liners.

I give it 9.5 out of 10.

10 our of 10 for the marketing budget, mind you it was tens of millions.

Never watched a Bond film in my life, never intend to, it's just not my sort of thing. I say 0 out of 10:nono:

If you've never watched one, how do you know it's not your sort of thing?

All Bond films are gay! Until this one. It's like a proper film with a good story and everything! No shite gadgets, no queer one liners as Bond despatches a henchman. I suppose Connery was good for his day but Craig is much grittier, real ex SAS type.

The only thing that spoiled it is the constant Sony advertising.

I'm not a massive bond fan but I thought the first half was by far the best bond film I have ever seen, the black and white sequence, the building site set piece and the airport set piece were amazing. The scenes were gritter and Daniel Craig nailed it big time. The second half was dull, the Casino scenes and the love stuff were far too long and the end set piece in Venice wasn't up to much. Its like they were doing something slighty different and then just slipped back into usual Bond with all the quips and some of the most clunky dialogue I have ever heard.

I would say first half 9, second half 3.

Because I have a basic idea of what it's all about, and have seen clips over the years on tv. From that, I have come to the conclusion that I would rather pull my fingernails out with a pair of plyers than watch a Bond film.
We've got kids at the school downstairs like that. 'I don't like it because I haven't tried it...' Trailers NEVER tell the story of a film. You are - if I may mix my metaphors - judging the book by its cover.

As a Bond fan, I say it was a good refreshing change to have a Bond who was far less smug, far more consciencious, far more vulnerable - this role required a bit of *gasp* acting. The plot features the man characteristic that he is a 'rookie' spy. There are hardly any gadgets, and there is more an element of Spooks about this than Bond - especially in the first half of the film after the parcour chase.

I agree with Mark Kermode that its one downfall is that he feels the film is about 20 minutes too long. The casino sequence could have had a little bit shaved off it, as could possibly the parcour sequence. It lacked the usual Bond pace, but that was good because it gave a bit of room for the character development to breathe a little.

I thought the opening titles were excellent, all card symbols and 2D effects. But then I would say that, it's the missus' cousin that does them.

Me, I loved it - and that's not just doey-eyed sentimentality (it was a different kind of Bond film).

My GG rating: 8.0
