we'll need £1.10 or more by end of the year.

One pound is seemingly not worth a 25 yard stroll for some. At Aldi Lewes Road there are generally dumped trollies around the car park with the coin in.

In another era, kids could’ve made a minor killing by hanging around and taking them back. Similar to returning ‘pop’ bottles to off licences.

In the building game it’s amazing how many people want to pay in cash. It still goes in my bank whatever. 10 years cash will be practically gone….. The bloke in The Green Man in Worthing only takes cash.. It’s odd but I suppose he gets charged. Does he ?

When was the last time anyone wrote out a cheque? Mine was two years ago to the chimney sweep from a cheque book that was issued in 2013!

I am having some logs delivered this afternoon. I will be paying by cheque from a book issued a year before yours.

What annoys me are the amount of businesses that insist on cash only, like our chip shop in Arundel, why? Given the rates of SUMUP and other card readers these days it can't be higher costs as the benefit over banking is far outweighed, so why else would they do it?

I’m the only one who handles my phone and I’m immune to my own germs. Cash is handled all day by different people.

See plenty of blokes in the loos (especially at football matches) with one hand on their phone and the other doing their other business, often part of the majority that still don’t wash their hands after either

Possibly because a fair % of that cash doesn’t go through the books perhaps

I nearly always use cash. Dinner at restaurant last night, weekly shop yesterday, filling car up with petrol Wednesday, all cash. For the last 40 years, I have always kept at least a couple of hundred in cash in my wallet and up until I retired, used a Company credit card for anything on expenses to keep personal and business separate.

I currently have three current accounts but they have money going regularly between them to get all the 'extras' on the various accounts (interest rates, free insurances, cashback on DDs etc), took a while to set up and I don't want to disturb that. If I have to pay for something on a card (like at the Amex ), I then have to transfer money to that account to keep them all 'in balance' and get loads of stupid little transactions all over them.

I guess I am going to have to get dragged screaming into the 21st century and open another account to use as a 'cash wallet'. Bloody kids and technology taking over the world

Always use cash if I can. Can't stand endless entries on my bank statement for things like coffees.

Why does multiple entries on a bank statement bother you? Sounds like you're using a debit card too.
Why not put all those coffees [and everything else] on a cash-back credit card [Barclaycard do one].
Then set up a DD to pay {IN FULL] each month.
That way, only one entry extra on your bank statement [the CC DD] and once a year a nice little accrual of cash-back [mine is always 2-3 hundred quid]
Now, every round at the bar is by card, but I know each time I use it, I'm getting a half-percent discount on EVERYTHING !

Why wouldn't you want simplicity and get rewarded for doing it too?

You had better do it soon, I'm sure we will lose it shortly. Ashington, Billingshurst, Pulborough, Steyning already without Banks - I'll bet Storrington will be without one by the end of the Year.

I have to take my shrapnel (20p's) to Nationwide in Horsham and they are starting to get a bit snotty about taking cash.

I put the rest of my small change (1-10p) into Charity Boxes - how are they going to cope?

someone wil have to as long as its legal tender.

Did you need to log on?

You spend £40,000 - £60,000 a year on everyday items?

Often, mostly personal but a little was [my own] business [now retired] - its a shared card with Mrs SS so all her Costa Coffees and Neros go on it too - we don't use it for everyday items, we use it for EVERYTHING!
I use the card for absolutely everything from a pint of milk at Tesco express, DD for broadband and mobile, fuel, food, taxis, pub, 50p car parking, everything.
Also spunked out last year for daughter no 2 wedding and another wedding in 2020 for daughter no 1 - all on the same card - thank fvck lockdown limited both to only 30 guests ....
Always paid off every month, usually £3k ish
