Although I disagree with the stick that Charlie gets on here I'd go for Chippy.

Why not play Hammond and Nicola, our best two midfielders.

No brainer in a Chippy vs. Charlie head-to-head... has to be Chippy...

Sorry.

How about El-Abd at right back; Reid and Harding in the centre of midfield, with Currie and Hinshelwood on the wings.

That way we can have Hammmond, Carpenter, Oatway and Nicolas on the bench.

that sort of inspired decision making might get you a coaching role at the moment- very tongue in cheek before anyone has a go.

Naylor is punting for a midfield of:

Reid, Oatway, Nicolas, Currie.

I'd go with that, I'm one of Chippy's biggest fans but apart from at Gillingham, he's made a limited impact this year. Whereas Charlie has been consistently close to the top of his game.

I would also back Reid over Hammond, although it's another merginal call. Reid offers a bit more a threat going forward.

I think if you look at the games that we have performed in, the best pairing has been Nicolas and Hammond in the centre. However with McGhee's complete reluctance to play a natural right midfielder, it has meant that either Hammond or Hinsh have had to fill in there. With Reid back, I guess he could start on the right moving Hammond inside, but not sure in our current form if that will happen.

Certainly long term a central midfield partnership of Hammond and Nicolas does not look too bad.

I think I agree also. Carpenter has been poor this season and hasn't had much impact at this level this time around. Oatway, whilst I am not his greatest fan has been good when he has played (excuse Derby) and will be busy enough to upset the Hammers midfield. He just gets the nod over Chippy and Hammond. Just.

The problem is Right wing. Hammond, Chippy and Oatway are much of a muchness is in the middle but not much good on the wing. The only natural winger is Jarrett but say no more about his defensive abilites, especially away from home against a top six side. (In a years time with the right coaching he will be a different player). Reid is not much of a winger either - He for me came good in the middle of the pitch in the Play off final against Bristol City. It's either Reid or Hammond and again I just vote Reid.

Undoubtably Nicolas has been the star midfielder thus far this year. Currie is a close 2nd. The rest need to aspire to the level those 2 have set.

There should be no problem with right wing. A certain Mr Gary Hart should be out there.

As for the Chippie/Oatway thing, I prefer Chippie but not really a lot between them at the moment.

Good call. Hart would also tackle back meaning that side would be less exposed. However I doubt we will be so attacking against the hammers.

I agree he is the only one in the squad who could can play that position properly. (Hammond too defensive, Jarrett too attacking, Reid drifts inside, Hinselwood again too defensive). A certian Mr Mcghee doesn't seem to agree.

I'd play a straight 4-4-2 against their 4-4-2 with a midfield of

Hart, Oatway (except I would prefer Cullip in midfield with Butters and Hinshelwood in the back four), Carpenter and Jones. This is only against West Ham though. For home matches Currie is to be preferred because he is more creative than Jones.

I expect MM will play Reid, Carpenter (or Oatway), Hammond and Hinshelwood. This is narrow with no wing play allowed.
