That's all they used at The City of Manchester Stadium between City and United fans.

There is no fence between Arsenal and Spurs fans at the Lane.

Have you been to Ninian Park or not?

Have you ever been to Ninian Park? You seem to be under the impression that Cardiff fans are nice fluffy little bunnies who enjoy half a bitter shandy with rival fans before the game and help old ladies across the road.

You have obviously never been to Cardiff, which is no surprise, granted last year it had improved. However I have been in that stand when the locals have been trying to remove the fence to discuss England / Wales relations whilst the police do nothing.

In modern stadiums banks of seats with netting is enough to split fans, but the stand at Cardiff is essentially a terrace and a fence is a good idea.

if Cardiff fans charged then the stewards seperating would be crushed. I have been to Ninian and although i did feel safe and enjoy game in the terraces without that fence there will be another Hillsbrough. they will then blame terraces for all the problems

No I've not, but I'm aware of the set up there. I'm also aware that Cardiff fans are not all 'nice fluffy little bunnies'.

At the end of the day the answer is never to put up fences but to remove the cause of the problem. Millwall have really cleaned up there act in recent years. This is not all to do with the stadium but more to do with a large number of banning orders being handed out a few years back.

If home fans cannot share the same stand as away fans without a fence then they shouldn't share it at all. Reduce the capacity of the ground etc. CCTV has been a major factor in reducing crowd violence. Banning orders should be handed out like confetty. If Cardiff City are unable to police there own crowds then they should play behind closed doors. Putting a fence up is a lazy and ineffective way of stopping the problem. I assume the fence was up when Leeds visited in the cup a few years back? Didn't stop them being rained with missiles.

But I've never been there so what do I know

One year I went on the A21 mini bus. In the car park after the game a friendly local got on the mini bus and asked if anyone fancied a fight. Meanwhile the WPC standing next to the bus stood there and said 'come on love, off you get'.

The last time I went there, after the game we were walking across the car park and a 40 something thug and his daughter of about 9 started hurling abuse at us-both of them calling us 'f***ing scum', f***ing poofs' (even though it was me and Mrs Bwian). We were called 'C unts' by 5 and 6 year olds. Add to that the fecking neanderthals circling around us in a menacing and threatening manner until we reached the car (that had had a window broken).

On second thoughts-take the fence down-they're lovely, friendly, forward looking people.

You're a funny one :)

If someone has a different opinion to you, you resort to playground tactics of " I knwo you are but what am I!", or "Well, you always think you're right so there's no point me even discussing it with you!", "I'm taking my ball home" etc.

People are allowed different opinions here. Dick Knights Mum doesn't thing the fence is the best solution but that's ok by you.

But it is better now

You have your opinion yes but it's based on an ideal and not fact. I've never been to Ninian and have no desire to based on the comments of BHA fans who have.

Why should they not share it? They have to give the away teams 10% of the capacity or 2000 (whichever is less). The dividing fence means that it is safe (ish) for both sets of fans.

With regards to Millwall they have done a lot to clean up their act, but I suspect if Millwall was an enclosed stadium, rather than 4 seperate stands, being an away fan in the ground would be a lot less pleasant. Also the lay out of the New Den allowed them to create the walk way to the station and so the away fans can almost entirely avoid the home fans if needed.

An example of poor segregation is actually St Mary's. Our seats we right by the home fans. Now normally in modern grounds they net off a number of seats between the fans. Here they had a 3 foot high fence and a line of stewards (although as things got more heated OB did appear). However this arrangement meant that verbals and offering fans outside was easy and I suspect if a team with a more volatile reputation was playing, actually getting at the other set of fans would have been easy.

I believe post the visit of Leeds, netting was put up above the fence to stop any missles getting over at Ninian Park.

You list all the methods of banning those that cause problems, but by having effective segregation, you can prevent problems, rather than react to them.

From what you have posted on this thread you seem to believe that all football fans should get and do get in.

Also that you believe that your opinions are correct, when they are not. I guess it would help if you had first hand experience of what you are talking about.

But then you are the Sage of NSC.

On the terraces!!
cant believe that fence is coming down - was the only "memorabilia" of the olden days of terraces and fences!:(

i'll still go to Ninian Park as it was a good atmosphere when we played therea few weeks ago, and we only had a few hundred!!
it is a great old fashioned ground which are very few and far between these days - instead replaced byu f***ing boring ovals with no life or soul.

:D

Not necessarily. To stop someone from commiting a crime there must be the fear of getting caught or some sort of reprisal. At Cardiff there has never been any sort of punishment on the club or the individuals. All they do is try and make it more difficult for them.

CCTV, banning orders and reduced capacity (i.e. the away fans get the whole stand) whould act as a deterent to stop them acting like idiots in the first place. When a club starts losing money they soon start to get their house in order.

Of course I believe what I say to be correct. I assume that you believe what you say is correct. Otherwise I'd be telling a lie? I simply do not understand this view point. You think that fences are the best way to deal with the problem and I don't. Fair enough. Now all we are doing is backing up our view points with reasoning. It's called a discussion.

From The Guardian:

"Over the last decade the supporters of Cardiff City have gained a fearsome reputation, more of their fans are subject to banning orders than any other club in England and Wales."

Perhaps that is why they feel they can take the fence down?

You do realise that this is a segregation fence, opposed to one at the front to stop people getting on the pitch?

OK, so rather than a fence splitting 2 sets of fans in a stand, how do you suggest that this old fashioned terrace style stand is segregated, after all you have all the answers.
