A warning for people in Crowborough my daughter in law has had her card cloned at Morrisions in Crowborough and they withdrew £100 on saturday night in Essex. When she reported it she was told that she was the 30th person to have had that happen to them there. The bank has agreed they will repay the amount after they carry out their investigation as she also drew some money at another cash point some miles from there a virtually the same time.

I didnt make this clear it was the cash point outside of Morrisions rather than at the tills.

Thanks for the warning.

I've used those machines on a few occasions, but tend to try to avoid them if possible - I've always thought that they were in a vunerable position away from the main entrance area (which does not give natural survielance) and open to tampering with cloning devices.

ah... thought it was skimming. I always have a quick check to make sure theres no reder device fitted to on the card slot, and very suspicious or dont use new machines (less easy to tell as there isnt any wear marks). the crooks place a small thin device in the slot to read the card but theres either a facia or tag with which to retrieve it, then a camera above the keypad to get your PIN.

If true, this It doesn't say much for the police in Crowborough, nor Morrison's. There were more than 20 reported cases of theft from the same machine and the machine is still there with no warning and the police appear to have taken no action.

It all sounds a bit far-fetched to me, banks don't like losing money and the idea that they're happy to let a dodgy machine continue doesn't seem realistic.

Police in Crowborough? You're having a laugh!

We only have one of those wannabe coppers who spends most of his time putting notes under people's windscreen wipers telling them they're badly parked.

In Crowborough, crime is left to crack itself!

Nah, I know there are police in Crowborough cos in my student days I got a lift from a copper who was stationed there.

It was a great lift too from Watford Gap services to within 20 miles of home - I remember it well.

T'is true, the husband of a woman my mother works with was one of the aforementioned 20.

And I'll echo what Lankyseagull has said, police in Crowborough??? About 5 years ago there was a nasty smash outside my sisters house, she called the old bill and they arrived 45 minutes later. My sister lived at the time (according to google maps) 0.2 miles from the Police station.

You are right though, they do exist occasionally, I was stopped on Saturday just gone for not wearing my seatbelt. Bloody pigs! :tantrum::laugh:

The police believe that the cloning took place overa very short period of time possibly an hour and that somebody was sat in a car in the car park watching the machine etc. It is only now coming to light as people receive their statements.

Dont want to piss on anyones fireworks but a story that morrisons cash machine was being used for cloning has been going around crowborough since the store opened. Notice that all the examples are someone else has had their details taken, never the actual story teller. Am I just an old cynic?

Were you trying to head north from Watford Gap at the time?

This has happened to me so i am the story teller, and it has happened within the last 10 days and according to to Divals owner I am 1 of 30 in the last 2 weeks, it was the cash machine outside not the LLoyds one the other one, and the cashier in the bank said quote " bloody hell Morrisons again " and when the wife was talking to her friend this week she had over a 1000 taken out of her account this time last year, rumour has it though last time it was a couple of staff on checkouts that were cloning somehow, this time it was the atm nothing to do with morrisons internal

Sorry to hear that but at least I am glad it is not a vendetta against my daughter in law. It must be a very sophisticated operation and also very profitable.
