Eight year contract! £150k a week GUARANTEED until 2031 :)
It just won't work with modern players. On a 4 year contract, you know by your 2nd year you need to be pulling up trees to get an extension or with 2 years left, the club will be looking to move you on. On an 8 year contract you might not have the same mindset, and with the wages they pay the player will just stay put. But with FFP it's not easy for the club to replace the players without selling them on first. Chelsea might have thought it was a genius idea giving out 8 year contracts but it really wasn't!

When you have the majority of the team on 8 year contracts

It's lunchtime, and I have to wait in for a package so I did some maths:

Chelsea's wage bill just for those who played against Middlesborough, and just for yesterday, was around £205,000.

The players who appeared yesterday will cost them approximately another £72,000,000 in wages this year, and with the length of contracts they have, over the course of their time at Chelsea those same players will cost them a combined £369,000,000 in wages despite most of them losing value not just because they play for Chelsea but because they'll get older and worth less as time goes on.

Among those that the figures don't include because they didn't play yesterday are Reece James (4 years left at £13,000,000 a year), Wesley Fofana (5 years left at £10,400,000 a year), Cucurella (4 years left at £9,100,000 a year), Chilwell (3 years left at £10,400,000 a year), Nkunku (5 years left at £10,140,000 a year) and many others of similar cost and contract lengths...

It's joyous to behold.

How many more head injuries will Fulham get tonight.

Last time we played them, they had more in 30 minutes than there has been at the Amex for the rest of the season .
