car buying advice

I'm looking for a new(second hand) car. Am I better going for a newer higher mileage car, or the same model/trim/goodies etc but a year or two older but with 20 or 30k less miles?
Thoughts appreciated..

Whatever you go for book a AA inspection on the car before agreeing to buy it , hopefully it will be a waste of money ( if that makes sense ) and the car is sound .
