It doesnt matter who is in charge......no one can make miracles out of the mainly talentless technically deficient idiots who play for England. They simply are not talented enough.

England: James, Brown, Ferdinand, Terry, Ashley Cole, Beckham, Hargreaves, Lampard, Gerrard, Defoe, Rooney.

Pick the World beaters from this list of muppets.

Are they the 'golden generation' or are we still waiting for them or have they long since retired?

Shower is the only golden thing I can attribute to this lot.

Well it's been dull, but at least Gerrard/Lampard/Hargreaves/Rooney are playing some nice triangles.

Gerrard to be fair may have given the ball away a fair bit, but is getting stuck in and at least looking interested for once.

Good goal mind - Beckham proving his worth.

Defoe is however EMBARRASSING.

I reckon, putting on my forecasting hat, that we could be on to a good thing here.

Traditionally, new England bosses sweep to an easy victory in their first friendly, deliberately arranged against a team of demotivated, low standard opponents, thus causing a wave of (unjustified) "look out world, 'ere we come" optimism amongst the white van driving, Sun-reading community.

Whereas Capello's first few matches have been quite attritional, dull even, and the players have continued to show themselves up for what they really are at present.

Perhaps this is the right way to do things, start slowly, rather than allowing the Wembley crowds to cream themselves over 4-0 beatings of lame ducks like Mexico or Hungary. Give Capello time, and he might actually start to build something worthwhile, without the endless pressure of expectation and the media bleating about so-called golden generations.

Kick their asses, Fabio.

Is anyone else out there thoroughly tired of the England team?

I just can't be arsed with them. I can't remember the last really decent game they were involved in, I cannot relate to or identify with any of the players in the team, as- a few limited examples aside- they're just a bunch of flash git wide boys, and I can't see them improving sharply any time in the future. No passion and no skill.

They need to earn the respect of the English public again.

i thought gerrard involved himself more in that game than he has in a long time, and linked up very well with rooney

You're right.

f*** it, i'll say it.

Gerrard was quite GOOD!

Makes a bloody change though.

When Barry came on the trio of Hargreaves, him and Gerrard looked great!

:)

Perhaps our resident West Ham fan can confirm, but I was under the impression Ashton had a distinctly underwhelming season, even once he was fit.

I heard a few WH fans complaining about Ashton's attitude over the course of the season, is he really England quality at this time?

I'm encouraged. It is a process and we're building towards the 2010 World Cup.

This was the best performance under Capello, we are gradually improving aspects of our game. Set pieces we look dangerous, defensively we look quite solid, and IMHO the most positive thing is that we are keeping posession a whole lot better. Also passing it around better, maybe we still aren't using much width as we could do, but the little triangles infield are helping us control the middle of the park a bit better.

I also give massive praise to Becks, as I did write him off a while back, his fitness levels are very high and he still looks a class apart from any other right midfielder we have.

T&T is the time for new players me thinks

anyway, he's still working out who his best 11 is, you say that we didn't see any new players, but to him they're all new
