My Canon MG6350 inkjet printer suddenly needs fixing. I’m getting error message “The ink absorber is almost full and needs emptying”. The Canon website (surprise, surprise) suggests I should send it off to a Canon-accredited repairer… But I’d much prefer at first to seek the wisdom of NSC.

Anyone come across this problem before? Any Brighton-area repair shops to recommend? As ever, the advice of NSC is eagerly sought.

It’s 2025 and home printing still doesn’t work reliably. I’ve never known anyone have a satisfactory experience over a longer timescale.

My eventual solution (after a lot of expensive trial and error) is simply to take things to a copy shop as needed. I only seem to need to print anything about twice a year, and it’s worked out to be far less frustrating, and significantly cheaper.

That used to be my view but the Epson I've had for several years now has been excellent. Never had an issue with it

Had an HP Officejet 8600 for years and literally never had a problem with it.

Printers are cheaper than ink these days, aren't they?

(Sold as a loss-leader, of course)
This. It's probably cheaper to buy a new one than fix it.

Unless you've got a huge stack of ink cartridges sitting around for the old one that wouldn't work in the new one.

I’m extremely happy for both of you, but am strongly of the opinion that they’re just lulling you into a false sense of security, before buggering up at a vital and time-sensitive moment.

I suffered with inkjet printing for years.
About 5 years ago, I picked up a HP M552 colour LaserJet with duplex capability in a Printerland sale
Only just replaced the black toner £25
Quality is tops, can do photographs on glossy paper at 1200 x 1200

Inject technology these days is throwaway - so often quicker and cheaper to throw it and replace with something of higher spec.

But laser is the way to go ....
Especially if you are an occasional printer user where inks nozzles clog and you waste half a cartridge in clean-heads mode.

On the subject of ink, I've used Lifor cartridges from Amazon and found them to be as good as original at a fraction of the cost.
Just saying.

I had exactly the same thing with a Canon MP640 which gave amazing service from 2009 to 2023! The ink absorbers were actually full/ruined, it wasn't a false message. I researched replacing them, but it was either going to be a huge hassle/expensive or they were no longer available.

So I called it quits and got a new printer. RIP Canon :(.
