Done, but its not showing my details. I asked Frank at the cricket the other week what was happening and he said it was a long winded story but to watch out for the news before the end of the year.

Have land in Horsham they want to build new ground on. Not getting much support from the local council.

OK Ritchie but the club has behaved like a bunch of clowns.

= voluntarily sold existing ground (ie not driven by debt) and then bought a Sports Club (Holbrook) in the middle of existing residential area with no parking, alienate the residents/council and then wonder why planning permission has been rejected.

Horsham FC has to find another site, converting Holbrook will never happen.

I remember some other club close to home who sold the ground without a ground to go to, does that mean we did not deserve a new stadium?

Whilst i support Horsham FC's aim of building a new stadium somewhere in the Horsham area I do not support the building of it at the Holbrook Sports Club - the land they bought with the proceeds of the sale of Queens Street.

The Holbrook Sports Club currently run 4 Saturday football teams, a Sunday football team, 2 rugby teams and casual cricket and hocky teams. To do this their are 2 football pitches, 1 rugby pitch, a grass hocky pitch and a cricket square (not to mention 5 tennis courts). If Horsham FC succeed in building a ground on this land there will be 1 Horsham FC stadium, 1 other footie pitch and a rugby pitch. Obviously this will impact the number of teams that can continue to play at the Holbrook Club (i'm in one so i have a vested interest).

Furthermore - since Horsham FC failed to get planning permission for the stadium (no surprise there - its right in the middle of a reidential area) they have proposed subtantial lease payment increases from the Holbrook Club on which they refuse to negotiate apparently.

I must admit I don't know the whole story here but on the face of it it seems to me that the owners of Horsham FC sold their ground without having a ground to move to and then tried to build a stadium on top of existing sports pitches already being used by local people.

They didn't force anyone to sell them the land though did they?

No, and that's why I've signed the petition.
However, there is no way that Horsham FC will (or should imo) get planning permission for the redevelopment of the Holbrook Sports Club as proposed. The application is crass in both concept and detail.

My understanding is there were no official planning reasons for turning down the plans.

The club did have to sell their ground, which however much I loved the place, was falling to pieces and costing money to keep up to scratch.

As far as alternative sites it is very much like Falmer. Plenty of sites which spring to mind but none which are suitable.

The Holbrrok Club didn't own the land. It was owned by Royal & Sun Alliance - and was originally the RSA Sports Club. When RSA were trying to cut costs a few (5?) years ago they tried to sell the land to property developers. This plan fell through though when the council made it clear they would never give planning permission for houses on this green space. RSA then decided to lease the lans to a new entity - the Holbrook Sports Club (born out of the old RSA Sports Club) - as this was a way they could make some return on the land. When Horsham FC came along and said to RSA - can we buy the freehold - I imagine RSA bit their hand off. Hosham FC became the new landlords for the Holbrook Club - and then set about trying to build a football stadium on an existing sports ground - hoping i presume to get around the no housing rule.

Also, just as a point of order really. I don't think the petition says anything about Holbrook. More that the Council should be doing more to help Horsham return to Horsham...

Yes I would support a return to Horsham (without which the club will fold) - just not at the Holbrook Club (which the petition does not exclude). Also given the history of this - I am not convinced of the competancy of the people running the football club - but that is not necessarily the fault of the club or the fans.
