Don't think it was even going to be that much, wasn't it a case that it would have been a Tribunal valuation and although Coppell really wanted him the board were worried it might be AS MUCH as 100k? Could have course have been considerably less. Don't speculate to accumulate was our motto in those days I believe.

We has just sold Zamora so just maybe they could have kept some back, although we had just signed LK.

Or am I getting my seasons mixed up and Hunt was available the previous season?

That is not strictly speaking true...we did have money at the time, however Icy is correct the board were afraid that the valuation a tribunal would come in at a much higher figure which we would have been obliged to pay! ( confirmed by you uncle at the time)

I do agree we should have taken a punt on darren Bent at 1 though
