I am looking for free software that will assist me in researching and writing a book.

I am currently using Koobits as a viewer of pdf files and also Calibre for my pdf/ebook management. I am looking over time to write a book, and want a programme that is particularly useful for compiling notes, links etc when doing research. Nothing overly complicated. I'd also like to keep a library of all books and docs i am using. I did try adobe digital editions but found it a bit restricted.

I would appreciate any ideas you may have. some time ago i downloaded a cracking research/study tool but am darned if i can recall its name
