We are hoping to escape the gloom of England for a long weekend in Northern France. I'm a south of France man myself but due to financial circumstances we are looking to spend a long weekend somewhere along the coast of our nearest and dearest. All I want to do is throw a tent up and eat cheese and drink wine, maybe take the nippers to a nice beach. Cost is important, we need to keep it down as Christmas has taken it's toll. It would be early football close season (obviously) so perhaps May/June time. Any recommendations?

Thank You

Trouble with Brittany is you cannot guarantee the weather, St Jean De Monts was good but I would try going a bit further still driveable in a day like the Vendee area which is fabulous

See i'm thinking that in late May/early June we have perfectly acceptable weather (most of the time) I just fancy being able to pop to a market and buying the biggest wedge of Brie they have and drinking 10/20 bottles of red with my feet up. I am probably in the minority here but I love the French and their way of life. It just seems so much more appealing than Dorset etc etc

St Cast, great town and beach, loved it apart from raining half the week. I think we went in May.

Southern Brittany's good. The thing is to pretty much guarantee decent weather in France you have to go quite far south, spent two weeks on the spanish border near Biarritz in June and even then half the holiday it rained. Have to say the other half of holiday the weather was nigh on perfect with cracking surf
