As for the age of Thatcher's detractors ... somewhere I have a letter written in 1982 by my then 88-year-old great aunt, which is one of the most vitriolic outpourings of disgust at Thatcher's responsibility for the Falklands conflict that I have ever read.

Well I never realised that our, then, Prime Minister, was responsible for General Galtieri of Argentina ordering the invasion of the Falkland Islands, or the Malvinas, as I am sure you would prefer to call them. Many thanks to your senile great aunt for pointing this out.

I'm in my forties and lived in Liverpool in a working class area during the Thatcher era mate. What winds me up is southern aspirants who made pots of cash and started Britain off on the debt mountain roller coaster in the 80s while the north got ****ing raped.

Clearly you don't know what your talking about half as well as you think you do.

what no mention of the disatrous 1970's, winter of discontent, Labour leaving the country bankrupt part 1. 97p tax rate and a country on its knees.

Thatcher made hard choices and many mistakes for sure, but compared to what life was like in the 1970's for everyone after the catastrophic Labour government and untold strikes left us potless and in terminal decline, she should also be applauded for putting the country as a whole on a path to modernisation and prosperity, not caving into Argentinian Intimidation, and playing a large part in the peaceful end of the Soviet Union.

Yesterday a frail old lady, a mother and grandmother died, it is in very bad taste whatever side of the political devide you sit. Gordon Brown was a useless buffoon who destroyed our economy but I would not consider something so distatsteful if God forbid be passed away.

Well, actually she kind of is respopnsible, she shit-canned the only RN ship down there and then ignored intelligence saying an invasion was imminent!

Grow up. How much of your tax is going towards the funeral? Absolutely minuscule amounts. I tell you what is despicable; the politicians of today not having the gumption to actually stick to their beliefs and convictions. Lady T did what she thought best to put this country back on its feet. Like every human, she made mistakes but at least she had the wherewithal to give it a go in the first place.

this.

I am not a Thatcherite, though I am shocked, and when even Martin McGuiness the former IRA commander says celebrations are in very bad taste it makes it all the more difficualt to understand. How many of these purchasers where alive as adults in the 70's and 80's?

I guess not that many

1p of my tax is too much toward that evil cows funeral. The fact the government are going to pay over £8m on her makes me sick. Particuarly in todays climate.

Here here, thankfully we live in a democracy whereas a lot of people do not but some of the things posted in the last day or so are totally shameful beyond belief.

.....................and yet you post some of the most boring, reactionary and provactive shit on this board on an almost daily basis and have been doing it for years, as Ernest often says "stupid boy".

So what else makes you so sick then, the fact that New Labour followed the same principles and policies to create the current atrocious debt ?
