The leaflet drop is a great idea to bring it to people's concience. However, I suspect a great many people would just "tut tut" about the waste of their money and then forget about it the next day. HOWEVER, maybe canvassing council tax payers with a petition, to be dumped at the town hall on a later date, could be a more effective way of putting pressure on LDC? People have always got more time to sign a petition than to write a letter. When the time comes, the petition should be delivered by LDC council tax payers. Nothing to stop people from outside the area canvassing for signatures in the town centre during their spare time though is there? ???Also, all media should be informed of the event. The potential embarrassment to LDC is enormous. Even those who don't know about Falmer or have no interest are likely to sign at the first mention of their precious council tax being wasted? Obviously the wording of the petition has to be carefully thought out. Over to you L.B. ???

I will say though, and I know many will not agree, I think this is the one time that we should leave the football shirt at home.
We want this to be a local tax issue, which it is and not just Brighton fans trying to stifle the opposition.

It's not strictly a tax issue - it's an expenditure issue. And councils have to justify all of their expenditure to the Government. Lewes DC has NEVER canvassed the views of its population in spending £134,000 on this process.

There may be other issues where councils up and down the country have operated against the wishes of the population and spent vast sums of money on.. well, anything. For instance, a given amount of people are upset - rightly or wrongly - with Brighton & Hove City Council for spending money on the Pride festival.

It just so happens in this instance that some people in Lewes are unhappy with Lewes DC for spending this money on this project. It also just so happens that there may be some benefit to the Albion (and let's face it - probably the town of Lewes in the long run) if these people in the Lewes DC area made others aware of what is happening, in order for the council to stop spending money opposing Falmer, and spending it on other more important services.

I think a leaflet drop is the best way, addressed to the council tax payer and giving some spurious examples of what £134000 wouldhave bought, eg 2 primary school teachers and a couple of youth clubs, that sort of thing.

well said, thats exactly the thing that needs to hit home to Lewes District Residents. If they see a sheet of A4 blabbering on about BHA they may well just chuck it, but seeing what better things could've been done in their community will make them sit up and take note.

As suggested on an earlier post approaching the Leisure Centre in the area is not a good idea. I used to work there and had enough hassle trying to put up REMF posters. It's also run by LDC.

Again not sure if it's worth leafleting on Bonfire night - lots of people from outside the area and difficult to get access to any suitable positions to hand the things out.

Do we have any fans in the bonfire society's?

I am think that we could get a few flaming pro falmer banners in the processions

Maybe something along the lines of Cliffe BS supports Falmer.

I am a member of the Cliffe and I am also in charge of the making of the flaming pieces. Unfortunately I do not think it would be feasible to introduce a Falmer piece at this late stage.
The Cliffe do however support the Albions cause, and for the last two years the Archbishop has made a point in his address that LDC should not be wasting taxpayers money on fighting the stadium.

High up on the South Downs.
Great news that people are acting against the appalling arrogance of Lewes DC.
Shouldn't this have happened two years ago!
I live outside Sussex now and I do what I can. I admire people like Lord Bracknell but I think that they were too softly softly with our enemies like Lewes DC.
Likewise back in 95/96 Attilla and others were too softly softly about Greg Stanley.
Perhaps this is all for the best. The FFA team, LB, Attilla and everyone else who loves the Albion are great.
Time now for all of us to pay what we can to Uncle Dick to save the Albion.
Hang on! This is sounding negative. Keep up the good work and make life hell for Lewes DC.

Perhaps displaying some pro-Falmer banners in the High Street during the Firework procession might be helpful? I know one business which would probably oblige - any others?
