Yes , I suspect however that Blackburn were prepared to pay a greater percentage of his (Stoke) wages on a loan basis than any other clubs who were interested.

I didn't think of that

Why oh why can't we get any half decent striker to sign for us? Just how hard are we trying to get somebody?

Oh god here we go again - "what is Gus playing at", "another one slips through the net", "we should have been in for him" etc etc

I think of gus refuses to change the style, I.e. doesn't drop Barnes instead of playing dobbie in a 442 formation, then something needs to change!
The only positive is the fact were not conceding many yet creating chances

Good signing. I'm still not convinced Gus is going all out for another striker - yet.

Potentially could have been a good signing but seriously, how many strikers do Blackburn need?! Jerome, Gomes, Rhodes, Best, CKR, Rochina and Goodwillie to come back in January.

I really don't understand their transfer policy, they didn't spend much in the Premier League but are now spenidng fortunes in the Championship. All of those players would be on good wages and Best and Rhodes cost £11 million in transfer fees between them. Shit or bust for them this season?

Ultimately, when competing against other Championship sides (in particular Blackburn and other sides relegated from the Prem in the last 3 years) we will always be at a disadvantage when offering wages...

Anyway, who's to say we weren't after him?

Everytime a striker signs for another Championship club, there's a corresponding "Shouldn't we be looking at players like this?" thread when we could have been looked at and been priced out of all of them! (Which raises a different question I guess)

We need a hoof ball merchant!? I don't think he would fit in very well with our style. We would require a completely different type of player.

I would say that, despite coming from Stoke, Jerome isn't really that sort of player. He is actually RAPID and likes to play on the last man. I would have been pretty happy to get him here but, clearly, Blackburn are going MEGA guns to try and get back up this season.

The transfer fee for Rhodes+ Jerome's wages alone are a horribly massive figure.

The sort of player I imagine would suit us (as a FOCAL point but not the generic 'target man') would be someone like Wickham, Guidetti (although he is probably too good to be loaned to a second-tier team) or Delfouneso (though he went to Blackpool)

I think he still gets on every now and again but Marc-Antoine Fortune must be behind Long, Odemwinge and Lukaku at WBA.

You could level the same question at us about midfielders when we don't have a single out and out targetman

We are never gonna be able to compete with the big boys who have parachute payments though, and there are plenty of clubs in that bracket, for these high wage earning strikers, I think we just need to accept that.
