Not according to the CWU site:-

Following the 4 weeks of talks, both Royal Mail and CWU have agreed to extend negotiations for a further 5 days until Sunday 9th September 2007, in order to resolve all issues in dispute.

Don't know if I'm clutching at straws, but I'm liking the last bit, after the comma.

That message has been on the site since Tues.
Seems strange for there to be unfounded chinese whispers spreading through RM, lol.

Billy Hayes has just insisted that the CWU are still in talks with RM and it still 'could go either way'.

Royal Mail and the CWU are poles apart. Royal Mail want to give the public an impression that the dispute is over the pay claim. The CWU need to get their message across that it is also about job cuts , overall pay losses , diminished pension rights and benefits which will come about when Royal Mail bring in their modernisation plans.

Looks like Royal Mail will do what they like as they will call the CWUs bluff. An all out strike like 1971 seems to be the final straw. The bad news for posties is that industrial action of this sort wont get total support. RM will tell posties that if they take any form of industrial action after a certain date they wont be entitled to redundancy and sack them so that they lose their pension as well.

Can RM do that then

I can't help thinking it's all over par the shouting.
Our office is very angry along the lines of, RM proposed, (pretended too) listened to the staff, then said, well, fook you this is how it's going to be anyway.

Our DOM only told us today about, hours & pay, we still have pensions & job cuts, to go, on Tuesday.
I personally feel resigned to this now. I still enjoy the 'final mile' & will try and make it work.

The final insult, today was, our DOM saying RM would not broadcast these changes, so as and when angry Job Bloggs, gets his post at 2:30, how's going to get the brunt of that, yours truly.

You ain't see nothing yet matey! your post will probably arrive around teatime if Royal ( ive lost the plot completely) Mail has anything to do with it!

I think everyone who has critised the Post (maybe with justification in some cases) are living in cloud cuckoo land if they think more choice in the postal service will improve Qof S.........................little prediction from a humble Postie...........IT WILL NOT!!!!!!!! The service as we know it will change forever and for what..........to satisfy a few ideoligists who think The Post Office needs competition to improve the service and bring a National institution into the public sector. Oh how those very same people will yearn to turn back the clock to a business that at one point flirted with 95% efficiency.
Our office at one point started at 4.30 a.m and recieved all our live mail at that time.............even then with deliveries commencing at 7 ish clients wanted their mail earlier..(Business mail delivered by or before 9) How will buisiness react to a delivery at about 12-1?.....and who will have to bear the brunt of this "improved service"? Yes yours truly.....thats if we still have a job or have not elected to leave. We have several personnal contemplating life outside RM because things have gone too far or simply cannot adapt to the new working hours because of childcare arrangements and other commitments!!
No sorry..........call for improvements but Royal Mail is railroading (apt eh) these ludicrous changes that will cost jobs, cut wages, put pensions at risk, reduce efficiency and still not satisfy the public............Have The Royal Mail and the dammed Regulator a Death wish for a much loved institution?
