Hello Budding Golfers of NSC...

Looking at getting a new set of irons and have been offered a pretty good deal on these, has anyone ever used the Callaway X Series?

Any advice would be good.

I have used them and they are very forgiving. I would recommend them if you play off 15 or higher.

Currently playing off 24 have only been playing 8-9 weeks but got the bug big style.

been thinking about getting some second hand ping raptures but the appeal of brand new clubs does seem to be a big draw.

Make sure you're sure before buying - good clubs should last you years so it's worth getting the right ones for you.

Choosing clubs that fit your swing speed and height is far more important than the brand!

Absolutely spot on. Go into a golf shop that has the computer thingy that measures your swing speed and get fitted, just like a suit. (you haven't got to buy from there) If you were paying £200+ for a suit, would you not want it to fit?

Is true but they are good clubs that you should not go wrong with.

This swing speed and such is a bit of bollocks in a way. Your not going to play the open and as you have just started your swing will be changing all the time over the next 12 months.

Do they feel good? Have you had a look at others and if price is important then it sounds like they are a good choice!

Being Fitted for clubs i think is a bit too much, id just like a nice set of irons which give me a bit of extra yardage and will last a few years.

I have a set, would recommend them. Having only started a few years back I couldnt be arsed to go for a club fitting etc, I borrowed a mate's set last year, liked them, I played much better than with mine, they felt better, so I got them. Still like them.

I probably wont break into the teens in terms of handicap with them but who cares.

Good luck

Any golf place, ideally a range that does lessons, will have a pro that will measure you for the right club length. That's most important to get that right, no matter what price of club.

Secondly, if you're investing in good clubs your swing speed. Often though it's not worth checking, or buying good clubs, until you've grounded a consistent swing.

I wouldn't buy them, as tempting as it may be. I started on some Forgans. Easy and cheap clubs, but the right size. You won't notice the difference on the Calloways yet. Stick with it, get some lessons at the driving range and get as much practice on the course as you can.

Then get club length, which you should have anyway for the clubs you have now, and your swing speed. This is all getting fitted really is. You have the choice to buy or not. If you go to American Golf they will do this for you for free as well.

Being fitted for clubs is essential, shaft flex, lie angle and length all affect the ball flight. If these are not right then you are not playing with the best equipment for you.
