I must agree we were superb in the 2ndf half. Even when they scored their 2nd goal with the ir only attack in the 2nd half I thoughtwe would get another and earn a draw but then came the f*** up by the ref and there was no coming back from that.

What impressed me was the way that Heath wa talking to the other mebers of the back four. On one ocassion he said to Adam El Abd, quite clearly, winner Adam deal with it, and left El Abd in no doubt as to what to do. Made a similar comment to Gary Borrowdale.

In fact, I would go as far as saying that was easily the best home performance since Millwall on November 2nd!

After 80 minutes a scoreline of 2-1 or even 3-1 to us wouldn't have been unfair at all. I thought we bossed the midfield (Bangura is CLASS) and Lloyd and Forster were looking dangerous upfront. Certainly in those two departments we were far superior to Southend. In the second half there was only one team in it!

What struck me was just what a massive impact Russell has had in just a couple of days. Tonight there was one thing showing in abundance that has been missing all season: FIGHT. I've criticised the team this season for looking like they could be putting more in (and I stick by that), but tonight I can't praise them enough. Every man on that pitch in blue wanted to win every ball, make every pass, and to come out on top. Tonight is the blueprint for the passion and determination those players should show for the club, and if they do that every week I for one wouldn't have a bad word to say about them.

Unbelievably, I of all people am actually appalled at the criticism on here of tonight's game. That was an encouraging performance if ever I saw one, and once Elphick/Virgo are back the main weakness (ie central defence) will be significantly improved. By all means moan when there is a lack of fight or quality, but tonight I think we showed both and, at times, battered an in-form side.

After the Crewe defeat I resigned myself to relegation, but tonight I will say that if we put in 12 more performances like we did this evening we will NOT go down. That's the challenge, but with Russell at the helm tonight has given me a glimmer of hope that it's possible. Anyone else daring to dream?!

I agree with everything your saying there Mr Badger.

That's lifted my spirits. We're not doomed yet!

I admire your passion but results are results. How many mlre time will we play well ( in patches ), have bad luck, a bad refereeing decision, not get the rub of the green ?. We also played well against Peterborough and that means that 2 good performances at home and 7 goals conceded !. Give me Peter Taylor's " boring " 1-0 wins anyday.

I'm really afraid it's too late for Slade to keep us up and Knight should of got rid of Adams earlier, he's obviously not the manager he used to be.

Agreed. Even under Adams we had this type of patchy optimism caused by 'bad luck' or 'good performances'. Fact is the table doesn't lie, we've been one of the worst teams in this division. NOTHING but points matter now.

How about the fact Forster came on and Murray was on the bench tonight? If they had both been fit for most of the season I doubt we would be where we are now. How often have they started games together for us this season?

Agree with most that has been said, thought we played very well in the second half and steady in the first. We have improved as a team from Adams, but we are still weak at the back. Someone said we lost the balance when El-Abd went left back, as he is not a left back. We need Elphick or Virgo back there with Heath so we can give El-Abd a break. Hey he actually only made 4 bad mistakes last night, he normally does 5 in a game.

Forster was electric when he came on and would love to see Murray back as I still think that that is our best combination up front. Also like to see Livermore in Central midfield, so my team would be (when all fit and suspensions ended).

Kuipers
Whing
Virgo
Heath
Borrowdale
Carole
Livermore
Bargara
Birchill
Murray
Forster

Subs

Owusu
Davies
Elphick
Cox
Jarrett

Really dont think Fraser, Hinsh and El - Abd are good enough as our results have shown this year.
