f***ing twats, for once I decided to fly from Gatwick to Manchester as its cheaper and quicker than the train (and Virgin Trains make me feel well sick!!) and BA are on strike. Now I'll likely have to buy a full price Virgin Train ticket and wait ages for a refund for my £80 flight... wankers

You should be fine mate......last time the strike didn't really affect Gatwick as they already have the reduced compliment and few of the cabin crew at gatwick are members of Unite.

I'm supposed to be flying back from Sicily on the 21st so certainly hope Gatwick flights run ok......

Sack the bastards, and employ people who do not have a job, and would bite thier right arm off for one.

Surely the media and the public are going to have to give them a hard time this time.

To strike over half term is nothing short of scandalous.

Why exactly are they striking?

Reduction in cabin crew on long-haul (from 18 to 16 I think).
Supervisors also expected to "muck in" and help serving passengers, to help make up for the reduction in staff. This, say Unite, is an "imposition".

No redundencies.
No cuts in pay.
Staff reduction is in line with other airlines and their numbers for long-haul.

In short, they are a bunch of precious dickheads who don't know what side their bread is buttered.
(they also earn on average £29k, which is about £12-14k up on what trolley-dollys on other airlines earn).

There has to be at least one BA cabin crew who posts on here surely? I'd love to hear the thinking behind trying to do yourself out of a job whilst f***ing up people's holidays during the worst year for airport disruptions in the history of British civil aviation.

When Dave and Nick finally sort themselves out, you might see a much tougher government stance on this strike. Gordon and Labour kept the kid gloves on last time, being as Unite are one of the Labour Parties biggest funders. That obviously will not be a factor this time round.

One of their 'grieviences' this time is the reinstatement of the travel perks that Willie Walsh said they would forfit if they striked. FFS!

Don't want much then, do they.

Quite frankly, after the fiasco with the threatened strike over Christmas (only averted at the last minute through a court injunction), I'd have thought people would avoid using BA like the plague. You just CANNOT rely on them any more, and this has just driven home the point, if it wasn't already obvious.

Goodbye BA.
And to the air-waiters and waitresses - good luck finding another job on even HALF what you're earning now. You prats.

thank f*** someone else has said that i thought it was just me. wierd isnt it.

Totally, I do a fair amount of train travelling, and Virgin trains are the only ones that make me feel really sick.

Good to hear about Gatwick by the way!

I don't know the reasons for this dispute, and reading all the posts so far neither does anyone else they just have guesses. From what I can see from the outside the crew are resisting radical change and they're up against a man who just wants to break the union. All the time BA employ scab labour the two sides will not settle.

No, I read what he thinks, not what he knows. And without defending the BA cabin crew why does everyone decry someone for earning a good wage and suggest we should all be on par with the lowest earners. I'm sure nobody is going to look at their own jobs and ask for a reduction in pay because someone earns less then you for doing the same job.

If you check the BBC web site then you'll see Easy 10 was more or less correct.

People aren't asking the BA crews to be on par with the lowest paid in their industry, they're just pointing out how greedy and selfish the crews are when they are one of the best paid in the industry. No job cuts nor pay cuts - hardly a reason to strike over. Take into account their previous travel perks that they have never paid tax on and it really shows them up as the bunch of left wing tossers they really are. To think that people are correctly complaining about tax evasion in Greece when BA staff are avoiding paying tax as well !!!!

The original dispute was over pay, jobs and conditions, including staffing cuts on flights, but the latest offer was rejected because BA has not fully restored travel concessions taken away from crew who went on strike, and because over 50 union members were suspended.
Five people who went on strike have now been sacked, including the branch secretary of the cabin crew's union section, the British Airways Stewards and Stewardesses Association (Bassa).
