Buying Mackerel

6 feathers high tide off the marina groin and you will catch loads. Mackerel arent the brightest of fish and tend to bite on anything swimming past them. We have taken a disposable bbq, cd player and loads of beers down there before and had a great day, dont remember the end of it but thats to be expected.

In true Hugh Fernley Whitingstall stylee, i'd love to potter around doing feck all.
One of those things would be a home smoker.

At that point, mackerel, would be pretty near the top of the 'for smoking' list.

You know you can smoke fish/meat in just a wok?!

I didn't have time to catch my own - I went to the Poissonerie - but they only had Cornish mackerel. Then went to Fish which was quite a shop - the presentation was excellent, and there was a ticket system, at least three people serving and a couple doing the preparation at the back. The mackerel was local caught (I should have asked where from) but purchased half a dozen and some scallops.

I met Afters of this parish in there, who was purchasing live lobster. I think he was planning to liberate them back into the harbour.

I liked Poissonerie - but Fish was excellent.

And the bbq was excellent. We pan-fried the scallops as a starter, then bbq'd the mackerel with a lime and honey drizzle. Homemade peach ice-cream and cookies to finish.
