In rehab
There is a list here, not sure how up to date it is, but it looks about right to me.

Farmers' Markets in Sussex, Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxon, Surrey, K - Farmers' Markets in Surrey, Kent, Sussex, Hampshire, Berkshire, Bucks, Oxfordshire, Isle of Wight - What's on, things to do, places to see and days out in the South East

There are a few sellers who attend multiple sites and others who come and go, so no idea if you will find horseradish
Cheers for that. Most of them are out towards Eastbourne way. Not one in Crawley or Horsham area. Will try the Southwater one.

Probably one of the daftest, most pointless, irrelevant statements I have EVER read on here. And this is a forum that boasts Bushy and Buzzer as members.

Did you read the OP?

I think "daft, pintless and irrelevant" applies to your post rather than the OP's!

The OP point was that small independent butchers, shops etc charge excessively high prices. Dougdeep refutes this by pointing out that these small shops have no choice because they don't have the buying power of the supermarkets and sometimes it costs more to buy something from the wholesaler than the price it's being sold at in the supermarket.

If you ran a shop (I don't but I know those that do) the OP might have been aware of this and thus not made his opening statement.

Seems to me to be one of the most relevant and intelligent statements in this thread!

Sorry Nibble. Pointless yes but I would hate anyone to be pintless!

Sorry, I didn't read the OP. I'll make a point of being more thorough with details in future.

and what exactly did you get? do you only eat 1/3 of a chicken breast per day or something? £6? i'd be lucky to get 1-2 days worth of food for that.

£1.91 for 4 Cumberland sausages. £4.20 for some carrots, bananas, apples, tomatoes and a baking potato. Another six quid from Aldi covered milk, bread, yoghurt and some tins of tuna, peas and sweetcorn.

Owned a shop? No but I understand the fundamentals of costing etc. Reading this thread has made me determined to source some reasonbly priced, good quality locak retailers though.

My butcher is definitely not more expensive than a supermarket (not including heavily discounted deals) and his produce is FAR superior to the supermarket. Clark's on Lewes Road.
Bit of a journey for you Chappers, but Meakins Butchers of Leek is clean wholesome meat very little fat. What i like about them nothing is to much trouble.

I disagree strongly. I can drive to the supermarket once and buy everything in one place. Or get in and out of the car driving all round town to lots of different shops. Which is better for the enviroment?

A one stop shop sure, but doing you know what you have bought let alone EATING ?

I'm not sure that you understand the fundamentals of anything. It would take a brave shop owner, who's on the breadline to start cutting his prices.

This post has made me understand something at least ;-) Well, as I said I shall be hunting out some good local shops from now.

Southwater one no longer exists I believe but the market in Horsham town centre on Saturday has a couple of fruit and veg stalls etc
