Butters makes the BBC sport website

Not sure if anyone else has already mentioned the beeb:

Buy Butters

We've got change if you need it

Brighton defender Guy Butters has been put up for sale for a fiver.

The centre-back was slapped on the Acoot auction site by fed-up Seagulls fans, unhappy with his performances last season.

Butters had a £5 reserve price slapped on him, but unfortunately there have been no takers.

The spiel accompanying his lot reads: "For sale: One centre-half, king-size, as new, hardly used.

"In original condition, complete with large quantity of protective padding. Selling due to high maintenance costs - costs £2,000 a week new."

It cruelly continues: "Would suit Screwfix Western League team. Possible use as whale simulator for training Eskimo children to hunt."

Maybe he could join forces with Yakin and set up a burger bar instead.

Nothing wrong with it, he has done absolutely nothing to make us warm to him, he is as fat now as he was when he joined. I'm all for supporting anybody in the stripes but this guy is taking the piss.

f*** off Butters:wave:

We don't all hate him this is just the few picking on one player cos they think that he is taking the club for a ride.

I ask those people how many people do you know who are not up to the job they do but hang on because they can't be sacked?

I know quite a few of those, life time of crap service to the local authority or health service or civil service. Most paid upwards of 50 grand a year for doing not a lot and what they do or they do badly but claim all the credit for other people achievements.

Would you do the same to them? I doubt it very much I think this is a sorry tale of a bully hiding behind anonymity, something that Butters is not allowed to do.

If you have the guts make yourself known to the player, to the club and lets see how good you are at your job.

I don't think this is clever or funny and would like too officially disassociate myself from it.

I have no problem with people having a problem with Butters, I saw him at Portsmouth from close up and he would be useless if he was half the size he is simply not a good player. (I did not rave about another new player we had on the pitch that day either some loan bloke from Arsenal, got sent off can't remember name).

But to do this to any human is quite frankly disgusting, by all means attack the whole team, the advert in the Argus a couple of decades ago describing the team as a bunch of clockwork clowns was funny and very clever, to single out one player is not fair and not on.

But that's only my view I don't care if anyone else agrees with me or not I just as a human being would not treat another human being in such a degrading manner just because I don't think they are worth the money they are paid.

Because he's a professional athlete for chrisssake. he's not paid to eat pies , he's paid to run a round for ninety minuytes every saturday afternoon and a few weekday evenings. If he can't get fit, then he should go

Still no excuse.

I know plenty of professional managers who could not manage to find the exit if they had instructions arrows on the floor pointing the way and a big sign saying this way stupid.

He's crap he's being paid by us it is still no excuse for the individual treatment he has got.

People will hang on till they get the sack or retire, people rarely give up if they can't cope, which is why its always a surprise when they do and they get my admiration for doing it.

He has a contract, the contract is likely to be bought up or used up at some point. Yes it was a mistake employing him in the first place but there is no excuse for him being treated in this manner.

I have just read Mickey Quinn's autobiography called........"Who ate all the pies". Players can take the piss amongst each other, but tend to develop a siege mentality when it comes from the fans. Butters has two choices, he can either see his arse or get his own back by coming on to the pitch at Oldham carrying a chicken and mushroom pasty. He will get a rousing reception if he does the latter.

Footballers are in a priveleged position, the auction reference was a gentle tease and should not be blown out of proportion.

For two grand a week (or whatever he's paid) would it really hurt him to get in a few extra hours down the gym or at least TRY to lose some weight for the good of the team? He's not a bad player at all, I was really pleased when we first signed him because he was pretty good at Portsmouth, what angers the fans is the fact we have this drain on the club's already stretched wage bill who doesn't seem to give a shit about the team.

.

But he can cope, he has played at higher level and to compare him to someone who has always been a talentless waster is to miss the point of the fans disappointment in him.

He has only himself to blame imo. Lack of effort and laziness when a footballer has the ability is an insult to the fans paying his wages.

As I said I don't care if people agree with me or not I would not do that to another human being.
