Butland going for £3.5m!

With Pepe going to Barca, Butland would be perfect for LFC, which is why we won't get him!

Remember that 'keepers go for a lot less than outfield players though. £3.5M is cheap, but not crazy cheap. Thibaut Courtois, on loan at Athletico and Belgium number one is only 20, will be the worlds best goalkeeper in five years, yet bids of £10M are coming in and Chelsea are (apparently) looking at them. A player of the same standard and potential who was a striker would go for around £30M. I can't my head around it.

I agree completely. Ankergren & Brezovan have served us well to get us where we are. That's not to say that we don't want to progress, but it annoys me when fans belittle previous achievements.

I didn't mean to suggest they haven't served us well merely the fact that I believe that they are prone to errors which in lower leagues may not be as costly but in the championship cost valuable points. How many of us last season were cursing Ankergren after Leeds at home or screaming at Brez for not coming to collect a cross or corner ? If we are to progress then unfortunately we need to be looking for bigger and better players. If PIG was seriously injured I'm sure I wouldn't be in the only one apprehensive about who would take his place as the other two just don't fill me (and often players by the looks of it) with confidence.

Despite the nerves of the fans, where did we finish last season with those two playing in goal for us? Upper mid table pushing for the play offs until late in the season. We're currently upper mid-table pushing for the play offs as we approach the final third of the season. "This level" is upper mid-table in the mix for the play offs.

No one is saying they don't make mistakes or that they haven't cost us points, but so has Kuszczak, so has every keeper at every single club. But that they are good enough for this level, I am (and thunder bolt is) saying that there is a difference between "being able to cut it at this level" and "being good enough if we want to progress", and that it's unfair to confuse the two when rating Brez and Ankergren.

They are, contrary to your initial post, "good enough for this level". They showed that last year. To now say they're not good enough for this level is suggesting they haven't served us well.

As a side issue, I doubt you don't know how much confidence the players have. I think a lot of fans project their own nerves onto players who don't actually have any. I know early in his first season with us Ankergren, Elphick and El Abd made me nervous when they passed it around, but I'm sure they weren't as nervy as me.

There seem to be some short memories around regarding Brez. If you just take 3 ' higher profile ' games....
1) Stoke.........0-3
2) Liverpool.....1-6
3) West Ham...0-6
There's just three instances when the occasion was too much for him. He was like the proverbial ' rabbit caught in the headlights ' He froze and went to pieces and completely unsettled the defence around him. Throw in the Tottenham friendly last season and another calamitous error. His appearance at Huddersfield this season was spoilt by gifting them a goal ( fortunately too late to make a difference ) I have more faith in Ankergren but both are prone to far too many errors.
As for Butland. Anyone who saw his save in the dying seconds to deny us a win on Saturday, will have realised that he is a talent.
Definitely Premiership bound.

That's selective memory. We have already covered the 'Brez gets nervy in big games' scenario. Ankergren doesn't. Both keepers got us from relegation candidates to top ten in the Championship. I suspect Brez will be released at the end of this season and we'll keep Casper.

From Andy Naylor's tweet and the Argus article featuring the PIG to day , I think Kuszczak will be in goal on Saturday..

A great save, though if I'm being hyper critical I did wonder if he might have done better with Spanish Dave's goal. Well struck and hit with power but Butland got plenty on it.

Volleyed low and with immense power.....very few keepers in the world would have kept that out.

Selective or not...Brez cannot be relied upon week in week out, even in the ' bread and butter ' games. You know there is an error just around the corner. Ankergren was released by Leeds as he was making far too many mistakes. The Elland Road faithful were calling him Calamitous Caspar. We have all noticed the difference that TK has made and most will forgive the abberation at Brum, knowing its not going to happen very often.

I bet if Ankergren had let an identical goal in last season, there would have been folk on here suggesting he should have stopped it.

I'm not sure, Spanish Dave did smash it, but Butland got loads on it and it went into the middle of the goal. I'd have to see it again (was at the opposite end of St Andrews to the away fans) but just wondered if he might have kept it out. Perhaps harsh.
