I'd take Butland in a flash. Casper and Sexy Pete, although reasonable backup can't cut it at this level IMO. A young keeper like Butland would make great competition for PIG as to who is the first name on the team sheet. Not to mention he's a solid long term investment

We already have the best keeper I've probably seen for the Albion - 3.5 million pounds on a back-up keeper?!

Southampton should snap Butland up in a heartbeat. Their goalkeeping situation is nightmarish.

I'm not saying PIG isn't good, he's been fantastic this season and I feel much more comfortable with him between the sticks than I ever have with Casper or Brez. I'm also not suggesting we throw 3.5 million on a backup keeper, I'm just saying that hyperthetically I'd take Butland over PIG because of what he has to offer long term.

Any team in England should. He'll be worth quadruple that in a couple of years at this rate then potentially more if fulfills potential long term. PIG would be OK in Prem but not top 10. Prob 15th or so but that's Great for Champ and his experience would help up there first season for sure

Last season, Brez and Casper covered all but 7 of our games. Of the seven they didn't, we only won once. With Casper and and Pete we finished 10th in the table. To suggest the can't cut it at this level is just wrong. They may not be good enough for the premier league, or to push for promotion, but for this level (upper mid table championship) they are fine.

We are not at the point that we are ready to spend 3.5m on a back up goal keeper. And Butland, having established himself as a regular starter for a championship side and has made his full debut for the England national team is not going to want to move to us to be a back up.

i have to disagree with that. i think the PIG is easily up there with the top 10 GK's in the prem right now.

I was more making reference to the fact we would need a better no 2, if we were in the prem. TK is a prem class keeper, no doubt about that but top 10 ummm, not sure about that. Prem clubs weren't exactly queuing up to sign him.

Perfect for Southampton, hope they go in for him.

Artur Boruc is quality. I think Butland would be better off going to Everton as the long term replacement for Tim Howard. Stay in the Championship on loan for this season and maybe be loaned out to a newly promoted Premier League team for next season and then go and take over as number at 1 at a big Premier League club. A bit like Joe Hart.

He's stated that he will not leave to be a back-up 'keeper.

Transfers: Liverpool, Everton, Southampton and Fulham target Jack Butland will stay at Birmingham unless he is his new clubs first choice keeper - Mirror Online

I agree completely. Ankergren & Brezovan have served us well to get us where we are. That's not to say that we don't want to progress, but it annoys me when fans belittle previous achievements.

Suspect be might replace Reina at Liverpool.
Bargain at that price

Reina likely to be off to Barcelona in the summer with Victor Valdes leaving. Butland to Liverpool is a good shout, he can use his feet and is a promising young goalkeeper. He would be the perfect choice for them but as I suggested before with Everton, he'd be better off being loaned back to Birmingham for this season and then move in the summer.
