Buses on Friday

Ta. What worries me is that at least three extra buses were required for a 6,500 crowd. Apparently, the Gillingham gate is going to beat that by about 1,500. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

But what sort of word is 'persons'? Sake.

What email address did you use Alex? I used their info@buses.co.uk and sent these 2 polite letters.

Dear Sirs

Please can you tell me what bus services will be provided after the game next Friday at Withdean. Specifically, will there be extra buses laid on directly after the game and if so, how many?

Yours faithfully

Same one, seems it was passed on a couple of times before I got a reply. I'll pm you the details shortly.

Buzzer,
PM with contact points sent, text of the main response from the Bus Company is below. Subsequent email confirmed each bus as taking up to 90 passengers.

"The service is provided by us but to the specifications of the BHAFC. They have requested from us just three extra services for the match, so there is nothing more that we can do. The service 5s in question will leave from London Road (Tongdean Lane) and are not timetabled. This is not a normal Brighton & Hove service. If you have any problems with the number of extra buses, I might suggest that you contact the BHAFC, though I feel it is now too late for tomorrows game. This may be of help however for the next one.

I suggest also that although the 5 service will take its normal routes from London Road and stop at the usual stops, it is very likely that the only chance that you will have to board this bus is from Tongdean Lane, as it will fill up there."

I just phoned Brighton & Hove Buses to find out what exactly was meant by 'allow extra travelling time to get to the match'.

North Street is closed in both directions from 6.30 to 7.30pm, thanks to the Burning The Clocks parade, so the buses going from the City Centre to Withdean will turn up Queens Road, turn right down North Road and left into London Road, before continuing their normal routes. A normal service is expected, but there may be some delays on account of the fact that North Road won't be able to accommodate buses in the same way that a supposedly car-free North Street can. (That last sentence I'm paraphrasing from the what the woman on the phone said).

Coming home... "Brighton & Hove Buses will lay on the same service as for any other match".

Bugger. Unless the club has organised some more... :(

Still, at least we know now - despite the despicable concept of it eating into valuable drinking time, I suppose I could walk.

Why should he?

The whole premise of the ticketing for games at Withdean is that we are encouraged by a travel voucher to use public transport.

However, sufficient public transport is not provided.

Ergo, we get fed up with the hassle of having to walk home or train into the centre of town when we don't live there and thus walk from there, that we choose to either not go at all or take the car, thus wrecking the entire point of the travel voucher.

You might not like the fact that some of us are frustrated by the hassle of getting home from Withdean after an evening game when it's freezing cold or wet (and some of us have young kids to take), but it won't suddenly make us think it's a non-issue and suddenly start putting up with it again.

Had a nightmare getting up to the Forest game. We left the Caxton at 7pm fully expecting a choice of several trains to take us from Brighton Station up to Preston Park. To our horror, There wern't any till 19.37. So we stroke purposefully out of the station towards London Road, intending to hop on a bus or flag down a cab. Two miles later up London Road, not one bus, not one cab. Ended up walking practically the whole way and getting a cab the last half a mile or so.

MADNESS I tells ye. MADNESS.

Don't waste your breath on this one, Sully. The bloke's a f***ing idiot.

He's got no concern about the bus issue, it's just the fact that it was me that made it that caused him to post his usual shit.

I think you may we ll get a bus tonight! Stop moaning and chill out. :smokin:
