Now i'm not a big book reader. In fact I maybe read ONE a YEAR.

Anyway, I've just been bought Build a Bonfire for my birthday.

Only being in my mid 20's now, I was a little too young to appreciate at the time the whole back story.

Im only up to page 40, but already I am GUSHING with Pride for this club and the fans.

It makes it even more unbelievable when you read threads about 'my stand is louder/better than your stand' etc. We should be thankful we even have a team!

I couldn't be more proud to support this club and more thankful for our phenomenal stadium.

Thank you to all who campaigned. The book is really hitting home to me the efforts made and I, for one, am thankful there were people who battled so they, and future fans such as me, had a club which was theirs.

Well said, and absolutely true.

There are a few people very prominent in that book, who take a lot of unwarranted slating from fellow fans nowadays, considering what they did back in the day.

I just finished re-reading Build a Bonfire late last night. It always moves me and lifts my spirits.

While we should all take a bow for our efforts back in the day, the book rightly showcases some truly outstanding contributions from a group of people who essentially saved our club as Hans Kraay Fan Club alludes to above. I tend to consider their names alongside those of our legendary players and managers etc.

It really was/is a football story for the ages.

It's a brilliant book. I think my copy is a signed one :)

but really, one book a year? I highly recommend reading. It's a lot of fun.

I see they've included the 'Half-time at Hereford' thread from NSC in the appendix.

Best football book I've ever read, but one slight omission - I wish someone had mentioned 'Sack the Board' being painted across the pitch before the York game, that was awesome.

I'd go along with those sentiments although all who were there had a big part to play-like all foot soldiers in every battle. Without the few prominent people it would have been a tough fight because they were digging up the dirt and we all then went about putting things right. It was a famous victory for us all.

The Amex is a fitting tribute to everybody who helped-even if it was the one signature on yet one more petition or organising marches and protests.

Build A Bonfire should be a compulsory purchase before anybody is allowed a season ticket at The Amex :amex:
