Beach Hut
Brighton Bhuna Boy
Went there last week and a match report:
Sunday - arrived in perfect Easyjet Harmony, purchased tickets on tube etc from Ciggy shop at Airport bus to underground then to tube station advised by Tourist Board and found the Hotel, all very easy. Radio Star Apartments as used by the Communist guests of state radio, very sparse but adequate. Walked down to Heroes Square and found a restaurant called "Robinsons" - kids loved the meal and back to bed.
Monday - Problem no hair brush, Mrs Hut said who packed it (I paraphrase - your fault for not packing it!). Tube to city centre (line 1 magnificently restored and about 12 steps below street level, apparently the oldest Underground). Over chain bridge and off to the castle area. Fantastic sunshine and nice walk around the castle area then headed off to Margeret Island. Island in the middle of the Danube used for leisure. Tram, overground train then walk and where there is a Magnificent fountain, baking hot and stopped off for hot dogs. Then back to the centre for a purchase of a hair brush and a tour of St Stephens Church, upto the top and great views from the tower. Kids flagging so back to Commis appartment then dinner and to a recommeded pub for SWFC v BHAFC. Marvellous scenes at the 93rd minute and curious views from locals.
Wednesday - trip to the hills to Childrens Railway. Tube, then tram and here we arrived at this magnificent relic. A railway that communist children were taught to run but now still a good thing to do. Wait for the 12.05 and when it arrived a mass of activity and saluting by the children all dressed in their dapper uniform. Caused uncharitable guffaws of laughter from Junior and Mini, negotiated purchasing a ticket off a child - Mrs Huts best french combined with total "I don't understand you baffled child (in uniform) NB supervisor ignored helping him. So away the lads a one hour journey to the Buda Hills, about halfway up a poor young female railwaywomen changed Juniors view. She got bollocked by the driver for the wrong hand signal but Junior took pity - I reckon it was those white socks and the peaked hat !
So we arrived at the top famished - found a local cafe which sold brains and brawn but fries and grissly lamb cutlets - £7.60 for a meal for 4, bargain !. Went back to get the train back to the chair lift and encountered our 1st real Communist - very sinister man in the woods. Train back to allotted stop for the chair lift, long walk and FFS chairlift closed for maintenance. So 2 mile hike to bus and two angry kids very tired ! Finally got back to Hotel, short siesta then a meal out in a Pizza place - very good.
Wednesday - Off to the statue park (50 ex Commi statues all dumped in one park). Tube then tram and wahay we've reached Croydon ! .Something Ter is a bus terminal surrounded by Chav / Pikey flats. Anyway bus to commi park and what an amaxing place. No wonder Communism died, loads of bland statues to this Hero and that Hero. Anyway Mini gamely charged round advising what was what but it was hard work and authentic, bought the kids a couple of Dinky version Trabants. Bus back the to the Labyrinth museum and bloody good - a load of tunnels under the castle, marvelous scenes for the kids. At night had another pleasant meal in Robinsons but on the walk down Mini decided to test his metal against a Trabant - large swing on the right foot and pride wounded - tears and a bruised toe plus total laughter from Junior. After Robinsons walked back through Heroes Square to a champagne Mozart rendition, two English coaches and one German mini-bus - resisted the obvious chant, two world wars and one world cup etc.
Thursday - to the magnificent Zoo. One of the best by a mile - Elephants, lions, bad-ass monkeys, crocks, snakes etc etc. Very good then off to the shops for serious retail therapy for Mrs Hut. TGI Fridays for dinner and everyone was happy till Mrs Hut charged back to TGI accusing them of relieving Mini of his Gameboy (which was in her bag) - oh did we laugh !
Friday - Liszt museum, pianos etc very authentic then back to the Airport on the cheapskate route of tube and bus.
A very enjoyable break and well worth the visit.
