Just had a read on Watford forum.... they HATE us......

Buckley AND another... - WFC Forums

Good-let's hope we develop the thick skin that Millwall have and don't give a shit about other teams' fans who hate us. That will mean we're doing well, are attractive to good players and long may that continue. I hope we can manage to retain the 'Clubs in Crisis' mentality that has seen us do good things to support other clubs but if there is a groundswell of dislike because we are becoming successful-I will love it. Watford are going through a rough spell, they have at least one player we need/want. I don't recall them being overly concerned when we had to put up with the likes of Peter Smith as our player of the season. Sod 'em.

Some more Watford opinions, from the Watford Observer after they turned down our opening bids last week......

"I have a mixed view on Buckley but he has potential, is young and clearly therefore not a player we should even consider selling for anything other than a stupid fee which this clearly isn't; go away Tesco bags."

"Yes I agree with many of the above posts and would be very disappointed if Buckley left for anything less than £2.5m. There have been times when he has looked a Premier League player and capable of winning games all on his own. Yes his form dipped towards the end of the season but I think that this was more a problem with confidence after he received a severe kicking from several teams culminating in the away defeat at Cardiff. Malky complained to several match referees that Buckley had been targeted by teams and that he was not getting any protection. I think the fact that Buckley was being targeted that shows how much he was feared."

"Buckley is a jewel in the making, and must not be sold!
Everyone wanted MacAnuff to go, and look what sort of season he has just had with Reading!
Similar sort of players, but Buckley is younger and has more talent and potential.
Next year he could develop into a top Championship player, given the chance.
Hope Mr.B is not a "sell at all costs" owner, and has the ability to see the talent in young Will."

Wow, they really do hate us... Mind you, we do have a select few fans who are insufferable after last season, seemingly thinking that we are Premiership-bound already!

On the Buckley front, its always the same. Lets not pay too much attention to Watford fans. Opposition fans always talk about how brilliant their players are, until we sign them, when it becomes "they were sh!t anyway".

Personally, the club has done some great business so far, seeing wantaways go and replacing them with proper quality. Long may it continue!

Truly exciting times to be an Albion fan. Looks like we will have spent around £1.5 million quid on TWO players... It feels bizarre doesn't it?

But the £1.5M is probably covered by Bennett's fee and savings made elsewhere. We've done bugger all of note yet but things look reasonably promising.

Am I right in thinking Buckley has a better goals per game ratio than Bennett. Really gutted Benno is going but was to be expected, hope he does well but can't really see it happening. Very glad we have replaced him with a player with championship experience

well who would have thought crofts would....and he did...i think bennett is a lot better than crofts...so he just might make it..
Crofts has only made the step up to the Championship so far ......remains to be seen if he will cope in the Prem, although based on this season I see no reason why not ...

Well the Premiership is about pace, which Bennett does not have,

One of the most ridiculous statements I have seen on here for a while ....and there have been plenty to choose from !

The Championship.
I'll take that. Benno has been a class act since being with us for two seasons, I wish him all the best and hope he sets the premiership on fire. Buckley has experience in the championship and thats what we need, he also looks a decent player.

I've seen Buckley, and he's very impressive - tore Cardiff to pieces in a game I reported on just after Christmas. And of course he has proved himself in the Championship. Cowie played in the same game, but he didn't register so much.

Have I missed something? Are we signing him as well?

All very true, a lot of people have been slagging off Murray although I'm sure that if Buckley was joining Luton they would be as unhappy as we were about Muzza. I wonder just what induced Buckley to come here though. I can only think that John Stephenson's presence made a big difference.

It has been suggested that if we are in for Buckley who Stepheson bought for Watford then we may well be in for Cowie as well.
