Bloody hell. The crap I have to deal with in admissions sometimes.
Hmmmm. Alternatively, good that anyone wanting to go into a near-$5 billion dollar (and growing) industry can actually get some relevant qualifications isn't it ?

What can actually be taught though?Hmmmm. Alternatively, good that anyone wanting to go into a near-$5 billion dollar (and growing) industry can actually get some relevant qualifications isn't it ?
Who (outside of this thread) is implying that though? It is classically misleading to suggest that someone graduating from this course would be suitably qualified to become a games designer (without any programming, art or games design experience).
Because it states games design as a potential career at the bottom of that course specWho (outside of this thread) is implying that though?
Exactly. The course has nothing to do with design or programming though?
The course is about playing games competitively and making a career in esports.
My point is that esports olayers have successful careers by dedicating their lives to getting really, really good at one or two specific games, practicing 12 hours a day. It isn’t something you learn through lectures.
According to the syllabus, they teach you about the industry, self-care… all stuff I’d suggest perhaps don’t merit a formal education in the subject. You don’t need an A in P.E to become a professional footballer.
It says "Future courses & possible careers".Because it states games design as a potential career at the bottom of that course spec
Really must get round to finding out what eSports is sometime. Without looking, strongly suspect its something shitty involving streaming and influencers
Imagine there must be dozens of roles, some presumably more suited to the less academically-able ?To get anywhere in this industry, you should be studying Computer Science or Game Development.
You mean you haven't applied to represent the club at the ESports FIFA thing ?Really must get round to finding out what eSports is sometime. Without looking, strongly suspect its something shitty involving streaming and influencers
Suspected as much
It’s basically people on a stage, or at home broadcasting themselves, playing video games against each other competitively to a really high level. DOTA, Call of Duty, FIFA - they are sponsored and at the top get paid extremely well and there are big prize pools. There are commentators and analysts and all that and it’s really professionally done nowadays. It’s a massive industry.
I personally don’t find it any weirder than going to watch Darts. The big events sell out arenas, where the games are shown on big screens etc.
Very popular among the youth, obviously, who see it as a way to spend their lives playing video games every waking hour and getting rich at the same time.
Gaming is the biggest entertainment industry in the world so its not that odd is it?
Bloody hell. The crap I have to deal with in admissions sometimes.
Plenty of ex-pro-gamers end up in the games industry. It is classically misleading to suggest that someone graduating from this course would be suitably qualified to become a games designer (without any programming, art or games design experience). It looks like one of those rebranded business courses designed to recruit better.
Yes the year is 2025 so there's obviously streaming and influencers just like in football, politics, toy collecting, clothes and everything else.Really must get round to finding out what eSports is sometime. Without looking, strongly suspect its something shitty involving streaming and influencers
True, but this role is specifically for learning how to play games for a living. I’d suggest it’s such a narrow and specific area as to be worthless outside of the esports career fieldImagine there must be dozens of roles, some presumably more suited to the less academically-able ?
Sadly/happily it's not supported by my Omsung PhineYou mean you haven't applied to represent the club at the ESports FIFA thing ?
