Who is he? (Other than a pilot of some kind obviously)

He's not a pilot by trade, he's the lead singer of Iron Maiden (world famous rock/heavy metal band, in case you didn't know).

He's also a fully qualified pilot (he flies as a hobby, has been known to fly competition-winning fans to Iron Maiden concerts personally in the past), and he's decided to put his expertise to use on this one.

He is employed by astraus airlines. It's not like he is doing this himself. He is on the news now saying exactly this. Hardly "decided to put his expertise to use" Just doing what his employers pay him to do...

Quite. He's hardly bombing round the skies in his own personal jetliner. They'll be the same as the rest of 'em, 'mounting a rescue mission' while doubling the prices.

Speaking of which, don't exactly fancy astraus airlines chances in the current climate either.

Yeah, but you are also on record as saying that Ron Dennis would definitley be booted out of McClaren by the end of last season, so your track record of predictions is poor

So-so point, well made

Tho compared to Unplaced Spielberk, I think you'll find that THPP is a Predictions God-Like Genius. As indeed we all are.

I used to work for Astraeus and Bruce is indeed employed by them. His flying duties are tailored to fit into his busy schedule, he has time off for tours, rehearsals etc and had time off for his various other commitments - flying heavy metal, his show on radio 6 etc. A very nice bloke who loved flying and although he doesn't need the money was always willing to help out if we were short of crew.

I think Astraeus will be ok, earlier this year they changed their business plan. They stopped flying for tour companies and now lease their aircraft with flight deck crew to other airlines. They also have a spare aircraft with crew on standby all day to be able to launch at short notice should another airline need to move their passengers if they have problems.

Given the current climate I would say that was a very shrewd move and one that is more likely to see them stay in business. I guess they will be picking up a lot of work due to the sad demise of XL.

I think you'll find that they would have been chartered byt the industry to bring home passengers whose flights are protected. They won't be charging the passengers anything.

Pretty cool to have Iron Maiden come to your rescue though.
