Broken Metartarsal bone in the foot seems to be an injury thata lot of players are getting now, Ledley King is the latest.

I am sure players didnt suffer with this injury 'years ago' is it to do with the protection or lack of given by modern boots.

I agree with you and think that modern boots have sacrificed 'support' for speed.

To get a better connection with the ball so me players wear boots half a size/full size too small. So if the foot is hit in a tackle it's shirley going to be easier to break because of more pressure on it?

One would think that with modern science and technology one of the major companies could make boots that can combine the two.

The program on telly about this suggested it is the "Blade" technology in boots that dont allow correct balance and provide precious little support.

I would agree in the case of those plastic Nike thingys, but King wears Predators, which seem pretty sturdy ... very odd. Maybe the blades point is true.

Deadly has only got a stress fracture so he still has a chance of going to Germany in the summer. I hope he does as that means we do not have to take Sol Campbell:clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

I hope Ledley does make it, be a big loss if he doesn't and this coming from someone who can't stand Spurs!!!

I have King in my Fantasy League team (and I have no transfers left).

Spurs are not the same without Ledley at the back. They may struggle to get 4th place now!

Juniors boots are just so thin now, there is no protection on the at all.

Precisely the reason why players get more injuries.

Wayne Rooney was wearing new boots today apparently...

But it wasn't the tackle that hurt him it was the way he fell. I would expect that had nothing to do with his new boots.

Did the old boots actually offer THAt much more support tho? Foot bones are pretty flimsy after all.
Looked like the injury was caused by his foot sliding along the ground at an awkward angle, these boots are wafer thin these days, bring back the bricks.

Bring back proper leather balls also. The ones that gained about six pounds (3 kilos in euro money) if it rained and were brown with yellow laces and urban myth had it that a skilled corner-taker could aim at a big bustling centre-forward such as "wor' Macky" McCammon with the lace pointing AWAY from his forehead. He'd still head it well over, mind, but his forehead would remain un-lace-marked and with the added bonus that the keeper would be fairly shoulder-charged into row F of The Family Stand.
