I know that as it is not me or my family it is easy to say but I have no sympathy as anybody doing this knows the possible outcome and the risks involved and they chose to take the chance.

I'd argue that because she put herself up in a sting operation that led to the much bigger fish getting caught she'll be dealt with quite leniantly. I'd imagine once she's out she'll have some interesting characters after some retribution though!

Is drug smuggling really such a massive crime that it warrants a death penalty?

I guess you could argue that smuggling a massive load of Heroin that leads to untold misery and death should carry a big penalty, although I think that if drugs were decriminilised across the board this nonsense would all stop.

If you actually read the article she said she did it because her kids had been threatened. It's a bit different to how some here are painting the picture.

Makes you wonder what her kids had got themselves into.

Lots of things bring untold misery and death. The war on drugs needs a re-think and this case just seems utterly pointless. What will it do?

If that was the case why didnt she go straight to the authorities and report it then do the run with their knowledge and them following her. She would have finished up as she is now but withoput charges against her. Still had people after her etc.

Slightly irrelevant what anyone outside of Indonesia thinks is a suitable punishment. I personally don't agree with capital punishment full stop, but if that is the law in another country, you either respect it or don't go.

Presumably she thought she wouldn't get caught, but with 4.7kg in your bag, I think that's rather unlikely.

I think your young and naive, as time goes by and your hit with colleagues dying and maybe personally the victim of relentless crime, then you might gain a different view on the drugs and its implications.

You may ( you might not ) be a casual recreational drug user and of course you would like to have everything you like decriminalised, however in my view our laws should be there to protect the majority and not to encourage a burgeoning drug culture.

Granted it might be too late.
