****ing shite. These are truly depressing times. We'll struggle to make the play-offs at this rate because we just don't score goals. 2 goals in the last 5 games is totally unacceptable. I dunno what we're gonna do now, it can't go on like this. Wilson has changed things around, done everything he can and they still didn't look remotely like scoring. Don't think we even created ONE proper chance tonight. Unless we get someone in today, we ain't going up. I've tried to stay positive, but how can you be when we can't even score once.
---

Truly crap. Clearly not good enough, we would have to spend $hitloads to stay in Div 1.

Things are so bad, I would even take Thorpe on loan

---

This was exactly what was happening during the first few months. 11 match run happened because we got a couple of wins and it snowballed. Confidence grew and we were getting the rub of the green. But we were only just scapping results then.

Yes, it was great while it lasted and the players did well. But once a result went against them, they didn't know how to bounce back and confidence has been shattered (players arguing on the pitch tonight). If you don't score goals then you've got problems. And we've got a CHRONIC goalscoring problem.
---

LOVING IT!!!!

OOh, hope that isn't famous last words there but when you see two promotion rivals fall agaist supposedly inferior opposition I begin to see lots of possibilities.

Still, we have to play Blackpool at Bloomfield Road. Like Colchester (who gave us a run for our money) teams like Blackpool don't have a lot to play for and thus can relax and knock the ball about, tere's no easy games now.

Well done, Agent Wilson, I knew you'd come through for the lads.

Danny has done exactly the same for the last 3 seasons. He gets them near the top but cannot get them out of the division.

Tremendous scenes. The tricky fixtures are coming along at just the wrong time for our rivals. We're being unbelievably lucky really. I mean yesterday, on a cold night in midweek, a point was there for the taking for Bristol City but thanks to Tranmere needing the points rather than nestling in mid table, they put some effort in.

Now Bristol City probably feel automatic promotion is hanging by a thread. So wouldn't it be ace if they went and beat QPR on Saturday? We'd then be just FIVE points off the automatic promotion spot if we actually won at Hillsborough, still with seven to play. QPR then go to Tranmere next Tuesday - if the scousers have a crap result on Saturday, whose to say they might put in another decent performance and nick a point off QPR?

There are too many ifs and buts to get overly excited just yet but the door is slightly ajar. Anyway, it'll all be academic because I reckon we're only going to draw in Sheffield.

Tranmere are extremely difficult to play at home so I can see QPR losing to them.

Surely Bristol City and QPR drawing is a better option (with a win for us of course)

We still need to win at least 7 of the last 8 games to have a realistic chance of auto promotion - and even that might not be enough. That defeat at QPR could be costly.

The way our luck is holding out, I think we could do it with just six wins. But that, too, is very unlikely.

I think a Bristol City win is now perferable given their run-in. We still have to play them, so providing we win that one (and we would need to) we'd only have to hope they drop two more points than us in their other six games. If we beat them, they wouldn't even have a goal difference advantage over us.

You said something similar yesterday Yorkie, but I didn't get round to replying. Wilson is stil very highlyu regarded in these parts, and I have long drawn parallels with the progress made at Reading...

Reading

98-99 11th
99-00 10th
00-01 3rd (lost in playoffs)
01-02 2nd (promoted)

Bristol City (under Wilson)

00-01 9th
01-02 7th
02-03 3rd (lost in playoffs)
03-04 ? ? ?

As has been discussed around here for months - they have a very tough run-in and with their recent form, points deficit to QPR and with QPR having a game in hand - if they do get automatic promotion, they would have done it the hard way.

Wilson has had City playing great football for a while now. In our Division 2 championship season they played us off the park at Withdean, but didn't have anyone to pop the ball in the net. It's been the same story for a while. Put Zamora in their team and they'd have beaten us in our Championship season.

The tide may well turn against Wilson if City fail to get promoted this year, but for now the City fans I know are "keeping the faith" in their man but are understandably nervous.

I've been working no more than 2 miles from Ashton Gate for nearly 4 years now. Being a football fan, especially of a team in the same division, you can't help but take notice of what is going on. Also City fans are very happy to tell me, especially so during that 11 match winning run...

If we beat Sheffield Wednesday then McGhee will get March manager of the month (5 wins, i draw). And that, will surely be the kiss of death! :( :jester:

I'm more glad that Bournemouth lost, but I'm srill looking over my shoulders at the chasing pack. I predicted that we'd finish 7th at the beginning of th season. I hope I'm wrong! :shootself

I know Barnsley fans were happy with him but Ned was still a Wednesday fan when he made such a mess of the Owls.

The way he handled the Paulo de Canio affair and made irresponsible signings on daft wages is still having repercussions now.

In fact Sky Sports News covered that aspect last night in one of their features.

I know he was a good player for Brighton but I have heaved a sigh of relief every time his name was bandied about when our managers have been appointed and he wasn't given the job by DK.

Out of all the teams in the play offs, I'd fancy playing BC the most.

They're on a poor run, they will probably be gutted at not making automatic promotion, they will be seriously feeling the pressure of failure in last year's play offs and we don't have that bad a record against them.

I wouldn't fancy Swindon, they always seem to be something of a bogey team for us.

But all it takes is for 3 wins on the trot and all the confidence comes flooding back. The way I see it, keep doing what were doing, and we'l be no more than 3 points of automatic. Then, with 3 games to go, we can start looking at the form of the other teams, see who is performing and who is there for the taking. I dont also see how we have been incredibely lucky either. Weve played the harder teams and accumilated the points, there's nothign lucky about that. Many people have harped on about how poor we have been this season. I for one expected us to win the league, but with Coppell going its been hard. However, we have wht is described as an easier run in so should rack up the points.

Incidently, what is the £££ for finishing second? Hyperthetically, it would be better to finish 3rd or 4th and go up via the play-offs than to go up in seocnd!!

I cant wait to go to Cardiff on Sunday May 30th.

We just have to keep concentrating on our games, and see what happens!

We can't catch Plymouth, so I'm happy for them to win all their remaining games.
