John McCirrick rabbits on but has just come up witha good idea on Soccer AM
Give 3 points for win
1 point each for a draw irrespective of score draw or nil nil,
then an additional 2nd point to the winner of a penalty shoot out held after a draw.

I think it is a good idea.

Every game will havea result and we could go to Norwich Tuesday night fight out a hard fought draw to get our 1 point as now, but possibly get an extra bonus point.

I think the goals should be 32 feet wide.

I think a better idea would be to reward the win by increasing to 4 points, or give 1/2 a point each to each team for a draw to discourage it!

Using penalty shoot-outs every week is a really bad idea. It's a bad enough way of settling a cup-tie (although I accept that no better idea has yet been thought of), but to use to give bonus points for a league game is just plain wrong.

If the use of bonus points is on the agenda, give teams a bonus point when they score over a certain amount of goals, say 4 or 5 - even when they draw!

I think everyone should just f*** off trying to change the rules.

Lets leave it as it is !

I love the fact you get injustices in football , its what gives the game an extra edge.

I must be the only person other than my grandson who thinks it is a good idea. At least it may stop people leaving 10 minutes early and disturbing everybody so they can catch a bus or feed the cat.

Heres 2 better ideas for football after a bit of thinking  draws to be rewarded by 1/2 point per goal, so a boring 0-0 and you get nothing, a exciting 4-4 draw and you get 2 points

Any games that are decided on penaltys should have the shootout before the game and then both teams know what they got to do

I think McCririck should stick to debating which thick f***ing grass eating evolutionary dead end on four legs can run slightly faster than another one with a dwarf on its back, at such length that you want to self harm with boredom.

I have always said that as it would encourage one side to attack more as they know they will lose otherwise. On the flip side one side would adopt another idea and defend like mad.

Sounds like McCririck's just looking to cash-in on the potential gambling opportunities to me. I'll keep it short & describe my thoughts about him in one word: TOSSER.

did you see him trying to kick a football? fist in mouth moment. any able bodied man who cannot kick a football straight has serious issues.

If I woke up one morning and saw him on the front page of the paper as his hard drive had been taken away to examine 'images', it would not make me spit my tea out in shock.

I'd prefer to see an away win get an extra point. Withdean would have been a goldmine for the visitors over the last couple of seasons :lolol:

McCrirrick is a male chauvinist unwashed **** and I can't imagine liking anything he thinks or says.

Penalties are in effect a lottery. Of course, there is a bit of skill involved, but it is basically down to luck.

I don't see why a team should get a crack at an extra point, if they grab an undeserving late draw from a dodgy penalty or something along those lines.

It would also not really work if you end up with an influx of 'extra time' during midweek league games.

Shootouts can be quite fun, but I wouldn't want 10 - 15 a season. It would also probably spell the end for Mr Kuipers.

Rubbish idea.

Agreed.

What's wrong with two balanced teams battling to a 0-0 draw?

On the other hand, the possibility of an extra point via penalties could actually lead to a defensive 90 minutes.
