Yes, see the 1978/79 video.....

Did the Albion get flash (it was a first at the time) and fly the players/directors to that game? I seem to remember.

In the May 1979 game at Newcastle, I recall a dozen Sunderland fans near our end in the Leezes side terrace trying to get to us. Desparate for us to lose. We stopped their promotion. Incredible that they were surrounded by Newcastle fans.

Remember this WELL! We won 3-0 if memory serves me. They won the League and we came second i do believe, old 3rd Div.

That was their team with Gabbiadini, Gates & Bennett.
Little old Albion had a great season with our great combination of Nelson & Bremner.

Remember the year they were div 3 champs and we came runners up - Nelson and Bremner up front, "Dougie's Evil" Rougvie at the back with "Keith Keith Keith Dublin". First year that the stripes came back after the top flight all blue kit.

Anyone go to the game at Roker Park in 1980/81 when Gary Williams scored?

Yup, I was there. Remember getting to Seaburn (I think) station and the local coppers being STAGGERED that only about 40 of us turned up to watch the match, which was bonkers given that we needed to win to have a chance of staying in the top flight.

Sunderland went into the relegation zone as a result of us beating them, and then had to win at Anfield the following week to stay up. They took 10,000 that day and Stan Cummins scored in a 1-0 victory.

Phenomenal support.
