Would any of the singing section or regulars of the old North Stand really enjoy being told what to sing and when by some sad little superfan who stands on a little platform - with his back to the game throughout - starting off songs for these "ultras" to sing with a megaphone?

i'm a bit confused as this is only slightly diffrent to what happens at the moment, except without the megaphone. some piss head stands up and starts screeching something and if it's a good un others join in and if it's not they don't, and then said piss head starts moaning for us all to sing up and support the fuckin team etc etc. I sure i've had my turn at one or two away's over the years.

PS good luck to these lads if they want to have a go:albion2:

The greatest ever atmostphere at a Brighton home game was our 2-0 victory over Palace in 76 I think before 33 thousand fans..... 2-0 (Sammy Morgan )

Nothing will ever get close to that.
All the old uns on here will be agreeing with me and all the youngsters will wonder what a real atmostphere is like.
I feel quite blessed that I saw that night.

you're not wrong, or indeed any game in the late seventies when we'd sing 'we are Brighton....' and EVERYONE in the north stand would hold there scarf up

So you're telling me the League Cup game home to Barnet isn't going to have a real atmosphere? Sake, wish i hadn't already bought my tickets for it now

That's what I mean, there isn't the enthusiasm for that any more. If it takes a little saddo (as it was described) with a megaphone to get that happening, then I would like to see it.

As for atmosphere, a certain game in Hereford a few years back, that was pretty special too. But nothing beats the North Stand in full voice. :yahoo:

Who knows, :falmer:

Why can you not enjoy yourself sitting?

Oh yeah, I meant to say, you never see a choir sitting down, or most opera singers, or a rock singer, or a rapper, when they are singing. It's a fact, they need to stand to fully exercise their diaphragms and get the most out of their voices. It can be no coincidence that since all seater stadiums were introduced that the vocal noise factor has gone down. Whenever there is a great atmosphere away, it is because those singing are standing up. Even if you go to watch Ingerland at Wembley, the place is like a library, until a few stand up and start singing, then the whole area around them gets up and joins in.

Just saying, like.

Because sitting down doesn't create the anywhere near the same atmosphere ! It just doesn't ! You can dress it up anyway you want but sitting down is SHIT ! My point proven at virtually EVERY away game where we stand without being told to sit down and especially at the few grounds where there is still terracing !
And you being a fan before a hitler (Sorry i mean Steward ;) ) must agree ?
Or are you really a prawn sarnie man :D

Indeed. Found some old photos the other day which I took during our first home game after promotion to the old First Division and the place looks stuffed to the gunnells.

It's very hard to explain to younger generations exactly what those halcyon days of the late 70s/early 80s were like in terms of atmosphere. I'd sing meself hoarse - and it was always a bit of a thrill if you started off a chant the whole North Stand then took up. I can feel the hairs on the back of me neck starting to tingle ... :afro:

Ooh, yeah, I did that once, a buzz it has to be said, then again, that was probably in the early 90s, slightly fewer people to join in, still, they did :yahoo::ascarf::ascarf:
