Brighton players who could head a ball

Putting the past to one side, the only aerial threat in the opponents' area that we currently have is Vincelot (who rarely plays) but if he makes a full recovery you could possibly add Elphick.

It is absolutely the one element of the game that we are missing

Imagine how many goals per season, someone like John Terry or Robert Huth would score in the Championship from set pieces?

I thought that this was one of the reasons for bringing in Vokes but he hasnt been very prolific in winning headers but as has been said it could be down to the poor service from crosses and corners.

El-Abd often heads it out from about two feet off the deck.

My recollection of Terry Connor is much the same but trying to head it IN at the other end of the pitch. He was one brave bugger was Connor, he often put his head where defenders swung their boots.

El-Abd doesnt even try to win headers at times, he backs into players and lets the ball run through to his defensive partner or Goalkeeper, its brilliant to watch.

why bother trying to win a header if your not going to get there, put them off instead and let your team sweep up.

that said when he does head the ball, its generally pretty tidy.

Last season one of our main weaknesses was the lack of headed goals especially from corners.
Greer is probably our best headerer of the ball and defensive headers he is up there with the best.
However from an attacking point of view he is cack in the air as with the majority of our players. He spends more time blocking opposition defenders in the box allowing one of our midget players a sniff of goal instead of having a pop himself.
I don't recall a bullet header or otherwise all season that had the wow factor.
The importance of scoring headers was shown in the Champions League Final the other night.
What players have we had in the past or even current ones who you could say really could head a ball?
Steve Foster springs to mind as does someone like Doug Rougvie.
My favourite would have been Micky Small; a player that would not have been fun to mark in aerial combats.[/QUOT

Forest away, leeds home were prime examples of him losing critical heading oportunities which cost us late goals. im sure there are loads more instances also where he has been found wanting aerially. If you have any footage of games this season you will be amazed how many headers he doesnt win. For a big guy, he cannot get off the ground.

Alex Dawson. Saw him head the ball and the keeper into the net at the North Stand end one night. Keeper shat himself for the whole night. Seem to remember the keeper had a beard and Dawson kept on staring at him and mimicking stroking a beard.

Yep. He is superb at this, another example of just how clever a player he has become.

Norman Gall is a good shout. Not big but great positional sense. A magnet for balls being pumped into our defence.
