The pain the baby must have experienced would have been unimaginable and it would have made a lot of noise crying, shame no one heard it.
My heart goes out to it and I hope that it now has peace.
There are probably mental health issues at play here and she will have a life sentence coming to terms with what she has done.
Adoption at birth would have been an option but all too late now.

You'd think so but it does refer to it as a plan and not an order so I assume there is a difference. The baby was 20 months so it may well be that the plan was apparently working. Social workers might have got down to weekly visits which means she could still plan to be away for the 6 days! It might also be that she had had a social worker and they had moved on and another had not yet been allocated or due to workloads they couldn't give the close support needed!

Hopefully the investigation will answer those questions.

Speaking from experience (I don’t want to go into too much personal details but part of the information below is why I’ve got custody of my children and am a full time single father).

A child protection plan is put in place as social services have very grave concerns about the safety of a child. The plan is drawn up by the local authorities, normally a social worker, with input from other care providers where needed (including schools, police, gp’s etc) that sets out what needs to be done to keep the child(ren) safe. It shows what needs to be done by parents and what support can be provided by schools, family members and what other support could be provided to ensure further action doesn’t need to be taken.

The escalation for a child protection plan is looking at if it’s possible for other family members to take custody of the children and if that isn’t possible then moving the child into care is the final step. The aim of social services and the courts is to keep children with parents or within families wherever possible and the plan is supposed to help this happen.

Obviously there has been massive failings somewhere along the process and a full enquiry should be ordered to work out exactly what went wrong.

This tragedy really hit home with me, thankfully in my case my children are now safe, they had a really good social worker who supported them and me with the custody process. Although to read stories like this one and you can’t help but think how things could have easily turned out differently.

She went out partying, that's the disturbing part. If true then that is murder pure and simple.

" Partying " is the word used by the Argus journalist.

It is absolutely inexcusable what has happened to that child but these issues are seldom how they seem on the surface.

Most of my friends actually work for Social Services or in the Probation Service.

It seems this girl has been absent from the family home since the age of 14.

I don't say that it was the case in this instance. However is is not uncommon for young girls in those instances to have been sexually groomed by older men and drug dealers. She could potentially have been controlled by such men or groups of men during her period of absence.

So whilst on the face of it, her actions are abhorrent. Without a knowledge of the full circumstances we cants really judge the actions 100% accurately because the journalist hasn't gone into full details of he background. Possibly because it won't be known until the " Pre Sentencing Social Services Report " is made available.

Yeah fair enough but I did say IF true. I stand by that.

#Blacklivesmatter.

I only post on football, but knowing this poster I felt I should say something and something on this thread only. I'm sure he didn't mean it with any racial undertones as he's never made a racist comment in the 20 years or so I've known him. He is going through a tricky time however and don't believe he's thinking that clearly at the moment. I hope Durlston doesn't mind me mentioning his troubles and hope he gets better in due course with the right help and support.

He might be a lot of things (a dick at times possibly!) but a racist certainly isn't one of them.

Thoughts with the affected family in this terribly tragic case in Brighton.

I really hope the sentence reflects how horrific this crime is. Too often our courts pass ridiculously short sentences for murder. If I were the judge this would be a whole life order end of story. She should never see the light of day again.

Thank God you're not a judge.

Most judges would have the sense to listen to the case before they gave out a sentence, not just lock someone up and throw away the key on a whim.

Hardly a whim is it? Enough facts of the case have been made available for me to have an opinion. Ok if there are mitigating factors that come out later then that should be taken into consideration - but from what I have read thus far I can’t see an argument for literally throwing away the key.

I suppose my point is we have seen time and time again in this country absolutely horrific crimes punished very softly. I’m not even an advocate for capital punishment, but for some crimes life really should mean life. Not 10-20 years...

Fair enough. There could be any number of things going on here......

While folk calculate the width of the eye of a needle and the girth of an unknown camel, perhaps this is bear pit time. I don't fancy another sight of this thread, thanks.

A beautiful, innocent child died in the most horrendous pain because her mum went on the piss for six days.

Evil senseless murder.

Nine years is not enough.

There's a lot of unanswered questions here:

Who did her boyfriend/friends think was looking after the baby?
Why didn't she ask her family to look after the baby?
Did she even show any remorse?
And just WHY? Why would you possibly just bugger off and leave a toddler to fend for themselves for nearly a week?
What did she think would happen?

Such a sad story.
