i couldnt see the point in appointing yet another manager whatever league we are in,the club has got to stop f***ing about with managers and actually back somebody to the hilt next season with cash to BUY players not loan them,we have to be in good shape for the time we move into falmer,so i would say keep Mr slade on a year by year contract if he wants to stay that is.

Slade, but HE, must be able to sack ALL the players he feels needs to , and he should be FORCED to sack Bodger and Badger and anyone else lurking around behind the scenes who would fit in better at pease pottage

I agree we need to stick with a manager for a while (isn't this always the intention with anyone though?), not 100% convinced Slade would be the best option, and if we're going to change then the summer is the best time. Jim Gannon would still be quality, only Knight will know if there's any possibility.

A decent motivator, not a great tactician.

I notice some people CHAMPIONING Slade's recent tactics SLAGGED about Wilkins playing exactly the same diamond.

Just because Slade has got a HUGELY underperforming Brighton team playing slightly better does not mean he is the man for the job long-term.

Sorry, run that by me again.

"Russell, we're re-advertising your job. You're welcome to apply, but we can't guarantee you getting it. We're trying to see if someone else better comes along..."

"OK thanks Mr Chairman. And f*** off yourself while you're about it."

Except Slade took the job knowing he wasn't 1st choice and also knowing it was only until the end of the season, so DK would be being fairly straight up, this time, if he went down this route. Not suggesting he should btw.

Pork pie land.
I have just come back to this thread to see how it was going. I'm delighted to see that the fans are getting behind Russell Slade. Naturally, I hope that we stay up. However, if we do go down it will not be his fault. I have seen enough of the guy to think that he deserves a chance to do the job for a while with his own choice of players and backroom staff before he is judged. I think we will be going for promotion next year if he stays, from which ever League we end up in.

what are you talking about?

He was given a contract till the end of the season.

Yes, he may be in the box seat as he is already in situ, however it would be madness of this shower not to look and see who is on the market after all, the position will be open then.

Personally, I still think he jury is out on Slade and remember Deadly Dick has form with sacking managers who keep us up.

If Dick is going to re-advertise the job, it means he doesn't want Russell Slade.

Otherwise, why re-advertise?

because there is no-one in situ the day his contract runs out!

It would be folly to just appoint him. having said that who knows Knight's mind these days....after all at the end of last year we all went home thinking Wilkins would be the manager to take us that step further, after this total f*** up of a season how wrong we all were

Why would it be folly? If he wants him, he'll appoint him, if he wants someone else, he won't. No need to complicate issues further.

You do talk some nonsense at times, TLO, albeit authoratively and with gusto.

It's quite common for interim positions to be advertised and the temporary person encouraged to apply for the role. Nothing sinister or underhand about it. Only problem here is our chairman has a habit of making simple tasks look amateurish such as the original MA replacement.
